Wow got it to 8 but then cmu made a shot

Cmu is 3-17 on threes and winning be 13. That is hard to do

71 to 55 as Coach Steele was too slow to take Mirambeaux out as he got winded and was totally ineffective om both ends of the court. We did have a little run and got it to 8 before he got tired. They had a bunch of layups and free throws in the last two minutes to push the lead back up.

Our shooting was poor, 38/26/61% We got outrebounded 42 to 30, and only forced Central into 6 turnovers. Worst game of the season? Maybe St. Bonnie.

As Xavier fans have said about ex Coach Steele, “you just wait”.

I respect your posts but this one is beyond harsh. It’s year two of a rebuild. We are clearly better but played like ass tonight. It happens. X fans have unrealistic expectations. Coach Steele beat nationally ranked teams when was there. He’s making things better but we still have a way to go

Well this one is pretty straightforward to analyze I think. We missed some open shots early, let it get into our head then fell apart offensively. You have to be patient and work the ball against Central. We had too many possessions that were 1 pass, jack a shot, especially in the 1st half.

Defensively, this is a team where we don’t need to pressure the ball because they’re not a good shooting team. But we’ve had the same defensive gameplan 3 straight times against these guys and we’re 0-3. They shot more 3s in the 2nd half, they missed, and it gave us a chance to cut into the lead. Doubling the post is a good idea, but we’re not good at executing the rotation and gave up too many easy 2s.

It’s hard to say anyone played well. A tough night all the way around.

I didn’t get to see any of the game. I see Potter only played 14 minutes. Injured? Ineffective?

The box score is wild. I didn’t see the game either and expected us to have a lopsided comparison but you look and see both teams had 3 players in double figures (almost identically amounts) and the others who scored were also pretty identical. Odd!

Poor effort esp on D - we have no rim protection. Anderson and Potter have to play better D. We need help at center for next year - where was Morris tonight? Still too many fouls. Worst MAC game by far- Sat is going to be a problem.

“beyond harsh”???

Ya Gene, you really crossed the line with that post.

So mz343 was Steele the coach for all three of these losses to CMU you spoke of? And if so, does that mean he failed to learn from his past mistakes? Failed to change his defensive game plan? Doesn’t that show at least a little deficiency in coaching?

Frankly, I would rather be playing for tomorrow than for today, by developing our underclassmen more. In other words, bench the seniors as starters and or as main substitutes, and play the bench so much more. Just my opinion.

Ineffective.

Disappointing game tonight. We couldn’t hit the side of a barn. To CMU’s credit, they did play excellent defense against us. On to Saturday.

Right. But the thing you mentioned had nothing to do with that. It was about the crappy posts X fans made when he got the job. The ones that said he can’t coach. He’s raised money and brought in better players and we have already won games we were not going to win with the last couple regimes.

I strongly disagree with that. Other than Kotecki, the freshman are getting all the minutes they can handle. We would not be competitive if we just started the freshmen. It would also be totally unfair to our 3 fifth year players and would create problems on the team because you would not be playing the best players and everyone would know it. Coach Steele is making them earn their playing time which is the way it should be. It is a natural process of working and getting better and eventually taking over and that will serve us well in the long term.
