Same situation, Down 1, our ball, TO Miami, 51 seconds.
Safford missed an elbow jumper, now down 3 with 25 seconds to go, TO UB.
Considering he was a big reason we had a huge head in the first half, I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make. Because the numbers don’t support it.
68-63 Loss. we just played poorly in the second half. And the last 2 minutes of the first, which was a huge key. They just said that BG and Central are losing, we might back in.
Bad decision making down the stretch. Streak broken, but it looks like we’re still heading to the tourney. Would’ve been nice to go in with a 5 game win streak, but maybe they needed to be reminded the margin for error is slim.
Rebounding.
Final. 68-63, bad guys.
WMU won. OU is destroying BG at the half. Barring one historic comeback by the Falcons, we’ll back our way in to Cleveland.
We’re def better now than we were in November. That was the plan.
Yep. If we rebounded or finished layups, we win. Not even both, just one or the other and we win easily.
CMU loss is final and BG is down by 28 at the half, so we’re still going to the tournament. Would have been nice to do it on our own terms and keep the streak alive, but bottom line is that we still get at least one more game.
Time to start another winning streak.
We were picked to finish 11th in the pre-season poll. Looks like we’ll finish 8th. Not bad for Steele’s first year.
Looks like we found a shortcut.
Walking in through the back door. Works for me!
The offense just wasn’t good enough in the 2nd half. We took too long to get into our offense. There’s being patient and being too deliberate and we were too deliberate too often. Mirambeaux on the block or at the high post, not at the foul line or on the wing and definitely not trying to go coast-to-coast for a layup.
Defensively, we didn’t rebound as well in the 2nd half. 2nd chance points for the game: UB 16, Miami 2. The energy just wasn’t there in the 2nd half as it was in the 1st half. I thought we had a chance to really demoralize them up 15 late in the 1st half and we gave up an open 3 and 3 point play to give them a boost before the half. And they continued it into the 2nd half. It looks like we’ll get another chance, so that’s good for us. Our half-court defense gave us a chance, something I wouldn’t have said a month ago.
And if anything thinks we “backed into” the tournament, we didn’t. We won 4 of our last 5, with wins against Ohio (which BG couldn’t beat tonight), WMU (which Central couldn’t beat tonight), and NIU (which Eastern couldn’t beat tonight). We earned our way in. Now let’s make some noise in Cleveland!
Wait, so we are in? If so, I want to say two things:
- I stand corrected: apparently, there is an easy way out. And a shortcut home so to speak.
- All I cared about was proving we could get to the tourney. Now that we are going, I’m gonna stand with my earlier (7 month earlier statement) which is: I wouldn’t want to play us. Toledo is in for a tough deal.
I am happy we made it to the MAC tournament. I really believe we are better than CMU-EMU-WMU and BG right now
Tough finish tonight. Some bad luck. Some bad play. Really bad last 25 seconds. But we get in
Hope to go on Thursday now. Got to clear my work schedule
It’s like a tiny reset: next game could either be Laury’s last game or in 3 games, we could be in the dance for the first time in forever. That’s a mind melter.
I agree…and unfortunately we started really bad against UB (Julian Lewis has to figure out how he can impact, help in a role…maybe too late this season).
That said we got swept by CMU, lost to EMU, blew a game vs NIU at home and sort of gave this one away…that’s five games that you have to win at least 2 of them, if not 3.
We’d be 9-9 if we had, and where we really should be with Steele and the overall or potential talent level that we have (Lairy, Safford, Mirambeaux, Mabrey, Kamari…and Lewis/Smith/Morris/Tatum are solid role players)…what’s the deal with Smith, is he hurt?
Anyway…onward, at least we made it to Cleveland, thank you MAC and brethern and OU for not making it even close.
