A 6’ 5" guard, Luers is a Bishop Fenwick product.

The valley has some good players and he was freshman of the year. I think we could be special if we stay healthy. Great add! Ps, his team hung with Kansas, ended up losing by 8 and he scored ten.

Career 39% 3pt shooter. Depth on the wing. I think this helps.

and a career 78.9% from the free throw line (87.0% in 2023-24).

One year or two left?

Looks like Luers has one year of eligibility left. He spent 3 years at Eastern Illinois and one Covid-shortened season at D-III Defiance College.

My first pass at a depth chart with 1 scholarship open:

If we play big:
PG: Ipsaro, Skaljac, Cooper
SG: Craft, Skaljac, Cooper, Luers
W: Elmer, Suder, Craft, Luers
W: Kotecki, Byers
C: Potter, Woolfolk

If we play smaller
PG: Ipsaro, Skaljac, Cooper
SG: Skaljac, Cooper, Luers
W: Craft, Suder, Luers
W: Elmer, Kotecki, Byers
C: Potter, Woolfolk, Kotecki

I think Skaljac could slide up in the rotation, but haven’t seen him play in person yet. Same with Byers.

Based on what I can tell, this time around he was contacted by UIC, IUPUI, Pacific, Elon, William & Mary, Robert Morris, and others

Overall, I like the roster. Good depth. Good size. Versatile.

I guess my only concern would be a couple studs emerging. I think Craft will be special, but who else? I think Elmer is the likeliest candidate. Ipsaro. Woofolk maybe? Potter. That was our biggest issue last year. We had great depth, but no number one guys. We were a team of second and third options. No stars.

I do think we have a chance to be a really good defensive team and we were pretty good last year. Rim protection should be solid with Potter and Woofolk. Elmer can be a really special wing defender. This is one area where I have to give Steel tremendous credit. We’ve come a long way since year one when we were one of the worst defensive teams in college basketball.

Luers a good edition- we still need another big- we need more physical presence in the paint.

“” good addition " "

That is how I see it too. There is a lot of flexibility in this roster and there should be really competitive practices. Based on videos, watching our team play last year, recruiting rankings, and coaches comments, I have an idea of who might emerge as a starting lineup eventually, but I would guess that will take time, maybe even until another year has passed.
Eventually I think Potter will be the starting center, Byers and Elmer at forwards, Craft and Skaljac at guards… Probably that will not be who we start early season, it just seems like these would be the most talented players and at some point they will emerge. Other guys may be more advanced and play ahead of them for now.
