Tix are going for a nice price right now on tickpick and gametime. Visitor section is usually W and X.
Hoping to make this one!
I have an excused absence because (sit down for this, long-timers) DC#2 is getting married that day. I guess I’ll watch the highlights later.
fuuuuuuuuuck
I know it’s August 30th, but would one consider that a “Fall Wedding” since it coincides with the start of college football? Asking for Mollautt.
This is definitely going to be my regular season road trip game this year. I had initially penciled in Rutgers since that trip could even be handled morning of game day, depending on kickoff time. But I figure the atmosphere and environment at Camp Randall on opening day is going to be just a bit (meaning a lot) better than what we’ll see at Piscataway a week later.
Actually the next three seasons are quite predictable:
2025: Wisconsin
2026: Pitt
2027: Nebraska
Purdue had been the plan for ‘27 until Lincoln popped up. Maybe I’ll go crazy that year and go with back-to-back Big 10 trips.
Perhaps, but apparently the bride’s medical school schedule does not factor in such considerations.
Those inconsiderate med school administrators…
I would wait on buying tickets. First game of the season, Big 10 tends to move games around.
The countervailing consideration is that Madison is not a huge town, and hotel rooms fill up fast for that first football weekend. For the last several years, we’ve passed through Madison on that weekend on the way back from Minnesota, and you have to book a hotel pretty far ahead. Another alternative is to stay up in the Wisconsin Dells just for the good cheesy fun and then drive an hour down to Madison for the game, but that also books up fast for Labor Day weekend.
Also, if you go, I highly recommend a stop at the Norske Nook in DeForest (about eight miles north of Madison). Everything is great, but leave room for pie.
DG nailed it. Get your hotel now and expect to pay 2x+ what you think you’d pay for Madison! I started looking back in Sept . when I had a work trip there and wanted to extend my trip to the weekend for a UW game then. Hotels were going for on avg $500/nt, and my go to, the AC Hotel was $1000. Ended up not sticking around, but started looking for our game. Most showed as already sold out, or coming in at the 400-500/nt rate in Madison and Middleton areas. We went ahead and booked at a Hilton property near downtown and they required a one night deposit due to high demand expected. If you’ve never been to Madison, I do recommend staying downtown/near campus or in the Middleton area. Verona is a cute town, I used to live there, but is a bit further out, Fitchburg has little character and Sun Prairie is much further from campus but closer to airport, and I don’t recommend staying near the airport either.
That’s funny you say that about Fitchburg. It’s completely accurate though.
Just stay in Milwaukee and do Sprecher and Lakefront tours and then forget about the rest of the day.
UW just announced game as Thursday 8/28
Just got on airbnb and snagged a $600/night 10 person house walking distance to stadium before market adjustments. Host better not put her 4.99 superhost rating on the line and cancel on me.
Damn! Almost had a nice Thursday night to Tuesday morning vacay scheduled for that game. Now it’s going to be problematic. Will have to come up Wednesday night or Thursday morning. Was planning on finished the Labor Day weekend in Door County. Going to lose the traditional Saturday game day experience. Back to the drawing board!
For those folks traveling to Madison for the game, be sure to visit one (or both) of the local restaurants owned by Miamian (and fellow Phi Psi) Phil Hurley - Sardine and Gates & Brovi. Both are outstanding!
Remind me again of the name of your splendid looking hound. Just adorable. You could tell me that dog runs a drug cartel and I’d be like “he’s a good boy. Yes he is!”
And the hotel reservation has been modified.
Yellow, his name was Murphy. He was a Goldendoodle. Sadly, he passed away this past year at the age of 13. It’s probably time to update my picture, but I wanted to honor him for a while across my various “social” sites. He was, indeed, a very good boy! Thanks for your kind words.
Sorry to hear. Having a pet is thousands of good days and one shitty one.
