Who is this Ron Harper guy? ![]()
I am guessing that Harper is now getting in because he was awarded an honorary degree from Miami.
My understanding is that you cannot get into the Miami Hall of Fame without a Miami degree.
This is the only reason Brad Cousino is not in the Hall of Fame which is an absolute travesty.
Brad was only a quarter or so short of hours to graduate even though he majored in Pre-Med. Imagine carrying that course load and playing the type of football he did. Miami also did not provided the academic support to athletes in those days that is done today.
Seems to me Miami should have made some type of accommodation (credit for work experience, etc. after graduation or similar for Brad as they did for Harper.
His daughter is in the HOF for soccer.
I am absolutely thrilled to see these great athletes in the HOF Class of 2026! Each of them very deserving of the honor.
Andy Miele. What a superstar.
I imagine very few of you know who Mary O’Leary is but her honor is well deserved. She was the longtime equipment manager for women’s sports. She did a stellar job with not a lot of help.
And her cow was innocent too.
Lax: As we get deeper into the “NIL” era with player transfers, etc. It will be interesting to see HOF
adapt.
Paraphrasing Bo Schembechler: “Those who stay will be Miami Hall of Famers” (and hopefully champions, as well).
Unfortunately, chasing the bag/big conference exposure will probably come at the price of several spots in the Hall. Elmer/Byers/Kam Perry (who had HOF potential)/Singer just to name a few. I respect their decisions, but it is what it is. I believe Adam Trick got his degree before transferring, so I can see him (and some other grad transfers) eventually making it in.
Ex-B, there is a big difference between the examples you have given and that of Cousino.
He did stay at Miami. He did not have the luxury of five years to play four or five years to get a degree like current players. He did not come in the summer before his freshman year like players today to pick up some early college credits to get a head start on his degree. Brad was cleaning out sewers under Toledo’s interstate highways to get the money to pay for one semester at Miami to have a chance as a walk on.
He came in as a walk on and had to earn everything he got.
That included two years where he was MAC Defensive Player of the Year and 2nd team All American honors for both the AP and FWAA.
It is a night and day difference.
Easy there, Lax. I’m not arguing against Brad Cousino. I was replying to the comment made by 1812grad.
Andy captained the US Olympic team in Beijing.
ex-B, I’m all good.
Suder should get strong consideration. Got his Miami degree. And assuming she stays healthy this year, Amber Tretter should be a Miami HOFer.
