Miami at Indiana football

Just read that we are playing at Indiana (getting $1.3m) in 2028

The last time I was at a Miami at Indiana game, we finished the season 10-1.

We beat the Hoosiers 21-20 but…No bowling.

Nice get. Still have two OOC openings in 2028 (also scheduled for home vs WKU), would guess we’ll fill with FCS and another power buy game.

I like it!

Yeah that game Eddie mentioned was in 1977 w Larry Fortner quarterbacking Miami. We also beat Ivy League champ Yale as well. The MAC contract w the Tangerine Bowl ended and this was before the California Bowl started.

I like it. Would not be surprised to see more of this if/when the CFB superconference comes in to existence (Miami, IU, Purdue, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, Cinci, WKU).

Actually, that’s a pretty logical conference … so it will probably never happen/

Like the add! Would love to see them schedule a game out west or in the south next

I went to the game in Bloomington in 1992. It was the final game I ever attended with my dad. He passed away in April 1993. We lost 16-0.

IU is a good P4 to play - easy access for Miami fans and a nice campus and venue.

Excellent. Plus, IU has this on the field…

You could make a good argument that we’ll be IU’s most difficult OOC game for the next five seasons. Look at that murderer’s row:

Yeah, IU’s OOC schedule is pretty pathetic except for Miami, WKU, Colorado St perhaps.

Nice, but would like 2 for 1 with one pay day and then even trade games.

I’m sure we all would, but are you going to donate $1.3MM annually to make up for the lost revenue?

Would a 2 for 1 lose revenue, if Miami brought in a good opponent that fills the seats like UC, UK, IU…etc. I would take a 2 for 1 on campus with UC if that’s what it takes to keep the victory bell alive

Yes. Published reports indicate that Miami football brings in less than $1m/year in total ticket revenue across the entire home schedule. Expecting one good opponent to more than double that seems more like a hope than a plan. A sellout at Yager might dent the net loss from foregoing a buy game, but it wouldn’t be a wash.

Welp that’s a problem for a 2 for 1. Sucks bc you probably could get a lot more people bought in with better home OOC opponents

We’re not talking about bringing in Florida or Ohio State to Yager. Bringing in a Duke, Pitt, Iowa or Ia St would be do-able, no? Purdue? Indiana?

I’m not dismissing the idea but rather pointing out the constraints. If our home attendance is between 10-15k for an average opponent today, breaking even on the $1.3m in lost buy game fees implies selling an extra 20k tickets for the ā€œnameā€ opponent at an average price of $65. Perhaps that’s achievable for some potential opponents.

Alternatively, there may be a loss threshold the AD is willing to tolerate for the brand-building and potential spillover effects on home attendance for other games. But when we’ve tried that before (UK game at Paul Brown), it didn’t work very well, and I always stay mindful of the financial burden we’re already putting on our students through the general fee. I’m not sure how much more of their money it’s fair to ā€œinvestā€ in something like this.

West Virginia is playing at Ohio this year. I believe that WVu allotment was so small that some fans are buying Ohio season tickets just to have that one game. Maybe that could be a side benefitšŸ˜€

Unless something drastic happens to the college football landscape or Miami football, UC last season will be our last power conference game at Yager for a long, long time. The financials just don’t add up when we’re already stretched as it is.

Not to thread jack but my God… WV at OU. Athens may not exist after that game.
