6 minutes, yeah unreal…awesome job by him and Kotecki.
rotations sort of treated this one like a learning lesson, exhibition…but sucks being swept by U of E back to back years…that atmosphere made Millett look exciting.
lol
The season is definitely not lost, just a bit disappointing all the poor spacing and passing, TOs etc…and not from young guys. They can get a lot better, quick.
Conversely, U of E was getting a lot of nice looks from offense early and then later in 2nd half.
We played 7 guys who were playing their first division 1 college basketball game, and it was on the road. They will make adjustments and will get better. Let’s at least give these guys some time before writing anybody off. Losing our two best and most physical players has set this team back, maybe a whole year.
No reason to panic yet. Playing with freshmen can often be a struggle on the road. They will get better. Would love to see more time for Potter and Kotecki. But the D2 guys were disappointing. Initial impressions are always fraught with caution, but we do seem to lack length and athleticism in tonight’s predominant lineups.
Here’s the rub about early season games: we can play like crap against a bad team one night and then lights out against a much better one the next. It’s gonna be Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride until February.
I was concerned about our freshmen guards not creating much offensively. Bultman seemed to be the main offensive creator, and he had trouble with the length of Evansville. Both of our freshmen guards are fast and can handle the ball, but they seemed to defer to the older guys. Point guards need to do more.
Mekhi had two assist (okay 1:1 A/TO) in half the time of Bultman…hopefully, and trust there is more to Bultman’s game, but I did not see great “creation” or quickness last night, they were able to put 6’8" guys on him that move better and most of his drives went to nowhere with a stop and hold of the ball looking for someone.
I’m sure coach sees something and it will sort out, and while frosh need to realize that they will need to takeover, game 1 is a lot to ask of a frosh. I expected Dean or Lewis (did not really play) to create…any way, looks like they need more time to sort out the puzzle (lots of new faces) and Anderson obviously brings something different. Also Potter not 100%…he’s legit.
Evansville is not good, but they had three or four nice players with length and ability.
Losing Safford is going to hurt all year, but much more so early in the season. I think various guys will step up to replace some of what Morgan offered (skill wise) by MAC Tournament time.
Without Safford and missing Mirambeaux for 5 weeks or so, this entire season really is all about the final month of conference play.
