10-3 is still an excellent record. We should go 3-2 over the next 5 if not 4-1. Even if we go 3-2 we should grab the two seed
Besides confidence and it never being fun to lose I think the biggest impact of the last week is the chance of making the NIT now is virtually zero. The NCAA bid chance is really not all that impacted.
Short term, the latter; long term, hopefully the former. Half the roster are honorary Masons after Tuesday night.
Since the ādepthā conversation is back, Iāll throw out a couple of half-assed observations. Steele has done a nice job in his first couple of years here digging out of the hole and recruiting a lot of players with good offensive skills and similar games. That group clearly can rotate to about the ninth man without much drop off in quality.
I think the ādepthā discussion may be masking a related issue that Iām starting to see ā namely that substitutions among that nine-man group donāt get you too much variety in skillsets to match game situations. For example, Iām not sure I could name a single guy on the team as the go-to defensive stopper to guard the other teamās hot hand or a designated rebounder. And every player on the roster could stand to be a bit stronger finishing through contact in less tightly officiated games. This is a good MACTION team, but itās optimized to win only one kind of game; a MACTION champion can win two or three different kinds of games by having a variety of skills on the roster.
Those issues with the roster all are fixable over the next couple of years through roster construction and on-campus player development. And Steele has made Miami attractive and relevant enough in basketball again that he should have a better shot at doing that than anyone since Charlie.
Did you ask them while you were chasing them to sniff their jock strap? Are they former basketball players? Last time you talked about being familiar with recruiting, you intentionally misled people to think it was basketball/football when it was lax. Should I double-check that theyāre former Miami players and not former players from a suburban Columbus high school?
No Kent thread yet, but theyāre doing the free concession promo for the first 100 students again (and they must sit in the north bleachers). Winning helps drive the improved student support, but stuff like that doesnāt hurt.
