Miami and AAC

How about Miami v Army/Navy in Luxembourg? That would be fun

Do you really think so? The biggest factor would be Miami’s ability to schedule a “winnable” early season game prior to one of those “marque” match ups

That’s a mighty small country for a lot of large-sized people.

I understand your point and certainly agree early season wins can set the tone for later season attendance. I still believe regardless of that, Army, etc will draw more fans than Eastern etc. How many more? That again goes back to early season wins and the product on the field. Really, could our attendance get much worse? Join it and they will come. That being said, I really liked the “old MAC”.

We played Army in a series recently and had good attendance if I recall for the home game. We also drew large crowds at West Point.

It’s a Grand Duchy, meaning they have a Grand Duck in charge. (It’s the name the locals called the Grand Duke when I was there)

When Miami plays Army, they can play for a trophy. Call it the “Patton Cup” in honor of General George Patton, who’s buried in the American Cemetery in Luxembourg

And play the game at Stade de Luxembourg. It seats just over 9,000. So a typical number for a Miami game

Gotta love the negativity on message boards. I’m sure the same people complaining about this positive move are the same people who complain about us being in the MAC where no one cares about sports. Sayler and co do something to help our athletic program and people here just complain.

Poeple who want us to stay in the MAC don’t care about Miami athletics. They are the same people that think Millett is fine and can be a suitable venue for 100 yrs

If it makes you feel better, it’s other fools spending their money on something that ultimately doesn’t matter.

The current capital campaign is closing in on the billion-dollar goal, but I’ll feel better if I see some of the same fools making at least as large donations to the academic side of the house. That is critical for maintaining the level of excellence we experienced and want future students to experience at Miami.

Good to know another Burger on this thread.

Yeah, that would be fun to play a game in Luxembourg!

And call it the Nopper Bowl!

(Nopper means ‘neighbor’ in Luxembourgish)

And, great reference to Patton being buried there.

A very solemn cemetery, with Patton buried among regular soldiers, with no favor.

Also, the US cemetery is next door to the German cemetery, which stands in stark, grey contrast to the bright white grave markers at the American site.

Very moving!

Yep. Agreed

@ Devil – Sports are the big billboard for colleges these days. If going to a stronger conference with bigger names results in more recognition for Miami U, I’m fine with it. More national recognition, more students applying, more selectivity.

I’d also like to see Miami play the service academies at Yager, or Tulane, Tulsa, over LIU or Stonehill.

Nah my dude. Ultimately it’s cool to see Miami Athletics being aggressive for once

I think you may have been missing some sarcasm expressed by RedHawks 2019.

Miami received 41,000 applications last year. That’s not the issue. Working backwards from the ~70% acceptance rate, admissions yield (conversion of acceptances to enrollment) is the issue. Sports might help with that, but I would guess that the capital campaign’s focus on allowing the university to offer better financial aid will help a lot more. Similarly, a return to the status quo ante for student visas would probably do more for application numbers than sports conference affiliation.

My mistake. I consider sarcasm my first language as a Soldier

I love Miami being aggressive here. Smart, calculated, and aggressive is what I want from my athletic department. DS has done a really good job overall, so I’m excited to see where he can take us in the next 3-4 years as conferences continue to evolve.

“Moien, Baby!”

That’s what me and another girl would say to each other when we’d run into each other around town.

I loved my time there in country
