Miami and AAC

This all feels so dirty to me. I mean, it’s not exactly extortion or anything like that when the AAC, JMU and us are all willing parties. And maybe it’ll be a win-win for all of us, I hope so anyway. But it still feels kind of dirty to me the way we’re all doing business on this deal.

What is Miami supposed to do? Stay in a stagnant likely dying MAC? Or do the smart thing and take advantage of an opportunity that may not present again. My vote-move forward to the AAC.

Which one of the teams in the AAC with JMU and us added would you NOT want to go see at Yeager? It’t not dirty. It’s the state of college football these days.DS and crew have worked hard to get us in this position. Thanks to the alumni that have stepped up major league.

At the end of the day, in a few years when the major TV contracts get re-worked, it’s gonna be the B10, SEC and everyone else. Conferences won’t matter, but kudos to Miami for being proactive

I know. This just seems to be how business is done nowadays. It’s not exclusive to conference realignment or anything either. I just don’t feel great about it is all. At the end of the day, we’re just using the advantages we have at our disposal to put ourselves in a better position. Which is what you’re supposed to do in a business negotiation. So I’m just being a little B about it anyway. I guess I’d just prefer that it were more merit-based than scratching backs with corporate sponsorships. But that’s just the way these things are done nowadays.

Has merit ever been considered when schools move? I mean, that’s how it should be…

So if this does happen, and Miami moves to the AAC, does that put more butts in seats? To see AAC “powerhouse” USF?

feels like college sports to me. Everyones just putting their names on checks instead of cash in duffle bags

I would think yes.

All right, I had to drop of my kid at school, and thought about this whole deal holistically while driving, and realize that my feeling weird about it is silly. Even with all the money and corporate sponsorship, if our athletic program was bereft of any quality, they’d turn us away. So the fact that we’ve had success in multiple sports, including the big ones is helping our cause. Plus the fact that we’ve been investing so heavily into athletics, with the new arena in particular.

And on the other hand, when you look at who the AAC has invited the last few years, I see less athletic success, and more merit coming from the media market. In our case, media market is not in our favor, so we have that going against us, and thus, need to bring more to the table.

This whole thing just has my mind churning lately is all. Try not to get too excited about my ramblings on this message board. After a lifetime in the MAC, and the rapidly changing landscape in collegiate athletics the last few years, I apparently have all sorts of thoughts and feelings on the matter, and I’m basically using this message board as a therapist of sorts to get it all out. Hahaha

16 team AAC could schedule like SEC. 4 team pods that play each other every year, play other teams every other year. 9 game schedule. Pod1: Army, Navy, Temple, Miami. Pod2: ECU, JMU, Clotte, UAB. Pod3: FAU, USF, Tulane,Memphis. Pod4: Tulsa, N.Tex,UTSA, Rice. I love Miami. But if I am AAC, I’d prefer UCONN. But hopefully the AAC wants a full member and not FB only / exclude BB.

Remember how the Big 12 has white trash Monster logos on everything? All you have to do is take our big bag of cash and you can have The American Conference Presented By Starbucks.

We have 2 games scheduled with JMU. Could be conference games!

The MAC isn’t going upward, if anything it stays stagnant or trends down. If Miami has the chance to move to a better league and you want to be serious about athletics you have to do it. If your goal is to stay in the MAC you might as well stop investing because we see what the results can be. You lose 1 game in the MAC tourny and go undefeated and have to play a play in game to get into the big dance. A MAC school will never get into the college football playoff, no way in H-E-double hockey sticksk will they let that happen. People have been saying it for years if you just want to stay in the MAC other schools are going to jump over you to better their position while we sit around and twiddle our thumbs saying aww geee this sucks

I would think absolutely yes. Just now came from a lunch meeting that involved mostly BG and UT grads. We all agreed that Army,Navy, Tulane etc will be bigger draws than Eastern, Central, Western etc.

Can you imagine a home schedule that included Army, Navy, Toledo and JMU? Fun!

As a NYer, Miami @ Army every 3 years sounds seriously awesome (even though Temple might actually be easier to get to?)

Aligning Miami to the service academies is like a no-brainer.
