Woolfolk is maddening. With a pair of new hands and a couple moves,he could be a dominant player in the MAC. I cover my eyes every time he makes up his mind to score. Yet he made some big plays tonight and mercyhurst had no one to match up.
Didn’t realize this until I just saw Steele tweet it, but this was our 18th straight win in Millet. Pretty amazing stat considering where this program was for so many years.
Happy we won, annoyed we didn’t win by 15.5. Too bad DeQuan Finn wasn’t out there adjusting the score.
The best thing about tonight’s game is that we still have a chance to finish the season undefeated
Not to add to the sour grapes … BUT;
If I’m not mistaken Miami DROPPED 13 spots in Kenpom after this game w/Mercyhurst.
Now sitting ‘behind’ Kent State …
We have been here before ![]()
I believe we were sitting around 119 before today so would only be a drop of 7 but still not good
Not gonna sweat our NET or Kenpom this year. It’s not going to be good. Hopefully just enjoy the ride while we win a lot of games and make a run at season and tournament titles.
I will be honest I was hoping to see Elmer step up his game especially with Suder out. It didn’t happen. We need Elmer to get out of his funk which stretches back to last year.
I agree with every point made in your post. Thank you.
A true legend,Coach Hedric!
Obviously we need him back for a lot of things, but the defensive communication is certainly better with Suder on the floor.
The zone was ass last night. I’d rather not see it against lesser competition.
I know switching defenses, sometimes almost every possession, is something Steele seems to believe in, but it drives me crazy when one is working so much better than the other and he keeps switching it up anyways.
It was very apparent our zone was not working yesterday. Guys weren’t communicating, they were getting eaten alive by ball movement, and yet he kept going back to it. In the second half, any time they passed 2 times it led to an open guy in the paint.
Big free throws at the end
Post game he said they played zone because they did not want to foul Skaljac out. He had 4 with 12 minutes to go. He said he does not like to play zone.
He sprinkled it in for a possession in the first half and Mercyhurst immediately hit an open rhythm three.
Skaljac committed 2 fouls but accumulated 4 due to poor officiating.
I think the elephant in the room is that we all came off of last season, particularly the way we performed in Cleveland, with strong confidence. Mid-Major rankings have carried that through to setting us up for high expectations.
That said, the feeling is that we should be blowing out competition this season to date and for the next month. We did not see that play out vs. ODU (albeit we put them away in the end), at Air Force, or last night. Meanwhile, Akron looks very strong, Kent stronger than expected, Buffalo stronger than expected, and Bowling Green looking like a sleeper.
Miami has its work cut out for it. Improvement is needed from Elmer, playing to expectations needed from Suder (get this injury behind him), Atlason hopefully gets fully in tune with the program, Woolfolk to play with consistency and resolve/dominance, and the freshmen need to quickly get adjusted. If the majority of these things happen, Miami will be a top contender. If not, we could find ourselves sorely disappointed. I believe in Coach, Suder’s leadership, and the experienced guys getting this in line and stepping up.
Nice summary on Mercyhurst. Probably went zone due to foul trouble. The refs were also playing havoc with game flow. They would let them play physical and then call minor push or hand checks while overlooking climbing on someone’s back for a rebound
Apologies I missed Redhawk ups comment on Skaljac foul situation but zone with ‘normal refs’ decreases fouls versus M2M.
Sarcasm…”the lowest form of humor”.
