Mens Basketball Plays Tonight

Reminder men play tonight at 730pm against NAIA Trinity Christian who besides being NAIA probably isn’t all that motivated anyway since it was announced the school is closing. Matter of fact the women cancelled their game this week, I don’t know if it was due to injuries or something else. In my opinion this is the weakest team I can remember us playing. Let’s just get out, get a big lead, run the offense and defense the way it should be run, not intramural ball, and get the bench guys plenty of minutes. And no injuries. Of course, and win, which should be a given. Game is on ESPN+.

When it came out last week or whatever that this place was closing I legitimately wondered if they would still show up to play this game. Hopefully they need the money to keep operating for the rest of the year…

They wouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to play at Millett. It’s the Cameron Indoor Stadium of Butler County.

I want to see Yofan in double digits tonight!

I live 30 minutes from Trinity and have legitimately never heard of it until we scheduled now. A lot of tiny private colleges are feeling the crunch.

Whole campus is 120 acres and it is already up for sale if you want to buy it for a Miami branch campus!

They play in DeVos Auditorium. Not sure why Betsy won’t bail them out.

He’s hurt

=>He could still get double digits against Trinity.

This will I think be the first time that when someone says “my intramural team could beat them,” they might actually be right.

Would be nice to replicate this

I feel pretty confident in saying Miami’s team could walk over to the rec center and find better competition than this Trinity Christian team will be.

Will this be our first “official” game against a school that is no longer a college? Does Trinity Christian need any extra guys? I can still shoot it.

Hell yeah, relive that mid-90s glory. Go suit up, and we’ll have them blast some grunge rock through the PA for your Millett entrance.

I’m assuming we’re still playing the Jock Jams, “Let’s get ready to rumble - y’all ready for this” montage to start the games at Millett.

Typically I’d be okay with the regular rotation getting 20+ minutes against a non-D1 opponent. But considering Miami plays like a dozen of them this year, I’d prefer 10-15 for the starters. Let walk-ons play most of the 2nd half.

An injury to a rotation guy is the only way Miami “loses” this game.

Trinity beat Clarke College (IA) in their second game, 97-79. We know where all the “72-0” talk ends up. There will be no way Miami plays well enough tonight to satisfy everyone. Trinity has players from seven states and Serbia. They will play their hardest, knowing they will soon be looking for other schools and other teams, because they love basketball. I hope Miami wins convincingly and uses the opportunity to get one step closer to the MAC championship, but I get no satisfaction from seeing the opponent humiliated. It’s an unfortunate scheduling.

agreed. This should be a game where anyone not redshirting or considering redshirting should get 15 minutes. first half should be 5 in 5 out every 4 minutes. Assuming large lead at half, our top 7 shouldn’t see the floor beyond the first few minutes after half. Perry, Robbins, Waltz, Kotecki and the walkons handle the rest. Kirby/Stowers if they are not redshirted. (I think one of them will be redshirted if not both–tonight will be telling.)
