Potter suitors…North Carolina, Washington, UConn, Louisville, California, Wisconsin, Dayton, and New Mexico State.
My sources are random Kentucky burners on Twitter. Does it get any more reliable??? At least they got the Kentucky part right!
Potter definitely showed flashes towards the end of the year. He’s a big that can shoot.
But his rebounding and defense and fouls were a liability. I really didn’t think he’d get top level interest and unsure if he will succeed, but I hope he surprises me. He worked hard and really gutted through some injuries for us.
They always say: the one thing you can’t teach is size.
I wonder if he got his asking price of $43k per foot?
So a starter ends up at Lindenwood, and a sub ends up at Kentucky. Hoosierhawk is right, you can’t teach size.
Happy for Reece.
Tough loss for us. Now we really need to get a rebounder and and a guy who can score down low. We’re loaded back up with perimeter shooters
I read that and thought, “$86,000- that’s not really that much.”
See… he has two feet…
Good for him. Grew up a UK fan. Can eat mom’s home cooking whenever he wants and hopefully got some cash. But…that’s a BIG step up.
As for the rest of the league … Toledo has reloaded from the portal w/emphasis on 6-5 and 6-6 wing types … Kent has added a Pair of portal underachievers from Cincinnati and UNLV (plus an interesting high school big from Indianapolis).
Certainly Potter has potential-BUT he needs a redshirt year. His rebounding skills need work including especially his one handed approach to rebounding. He needs serious work on how to use the glass on offense and needs to learn how to play D in the paint. Yes he can shoot a three but we have quite a few others that can do that. I wish him well at UK. Now lets find a physical big who can box out , rebound and play solid D.
Wow. This thread heated up quickly with that Potter news. Good for him. I hope he gets everything he wants by putting on the UK jersey. Onward and upward for both Miami and Reece.
=>Damn it @muhawk, taking the high road is for pussies!!!
Reece is definitely a guy who I can see developing into a contributor in Mark Pope’s offense but man, the SEC has some real dudes in the paint that he’d have to guard. I hope he can put some weight on and keep his back healthy.
Does that mean if you take th high road you get…
Never mind.
I think there is absolutely no universe where we should or will add another big. We have Woolfolk returning. I assume the staff still has belief in Kotecki or he wouldn’t have stuck around. We added Atlason. We have Robbins coming in. That’s 4ish bigs. Considering we basically never played two posts together last year, I’d say that’s plenty.
Someone mentioned they’d be surprised if we added anyone else period, and I’m starting to think that’s the case, but if we do my vote would be for a playmaking guard.
Redhawk10-We live in different universes-check out last years stats in D 1 games and esp in games where we got outrebounded- we have a number of guys who can play any guard position including maybe 1 or 2 of the incoming class. College basketball today is much more physical - today rebound and run - then shoot a three ( unless you have beat the D entirely down the court ). A major mistake not to add physical presence in the paint esp for D and rebounding and I like Woolfolk upside but we need an established big to pair with him.
I guess would reiterate that’s not how Steele likes to play. Outside of like five minutes in the Toledo game when Woolfolk and Potter played together, we never played two true bigs at the same time. What I could see is Woolfolk and Atlason playing together since one can shoot and it doesn’t mess up our spacing. But it’s just not our head coach’s style.
