This one does not surprise me. I thought I read on here a while back that he was unhappy. Might have been last year, but that stuck with me. He’s a good MAC player. Not sure he will play much if he transfers up a level, but he will probably get paid. Can’t coach height.
He was awesome for the last two months of the season.
I had really high expectations for him next season. Potentially to move into a starting role. You could see Steele’s trust in him grow as the season progressed too. He wasn’t starting, but he was in our crunch time lineups almost every game barring foul trouble.
Pie in the sky, but I was hopeful we’d return everyone. I like the old school feel of running it back with the same guys and seeing how far we can get. I also just enjoyed rooting for this group of guys.
With that being said, Steele batted 1000 with our portal last year, and our incoming freshman will get a chance at some more playing time, so I’m optimistic we’ll land on our feet.
I’ll welcome any of the three portal guys back with open arms. And Brant Byers, these arms are wide open waiting for your announcement that you’re returning!
We saw a glimpse of what Potter could do when fully healthy. That back injury (injuries?) really held him, uh, back. He became much more aggressive and active by the end of the season, which I guess coincided with him feeling more confident about his health.
Potter absolutely needs more bulk to be an all-MAC type of player, and I believe he was headed that direction.
I could see him playing at a variety of levels, for different reasons, both higher and lower than the MAC. Hope his back troubles are in the past, but playing against P4 post players, whether in practices or games, is going to test that.
I hope that over the next year or two he carves out his niche.
To paraphrase Bill Raftery during the 1995 tournament game vs Arizona, when discussing Kevin Beard… “Every team needs a Kotecki!”
Would like him to continue to get stronger, for defensive purposes as well as with the ball in the post. Shoot 500 treys a day and also become a rebounding monster, and I think he could add value next year and certainly his senior year.
But it appears his ceiling right now is as a role player, which again, is useful if the player doesn’t rock the boat (and I don’t see him doing that).
Yeah we would have seen a lot of roster movement even if it were 10 years ago. I think the writing was very much on the wall for Cooper when his backup had the ball in his hands with the season on the line.
