Miami “avoids” Kent state, CMU, BGSU, and UMass
Even so, not exactly a gauntlet of a MAC schedule. At Ohio and hosting Toledo will probably be the toughest.
My quick-and-dirty reaction ported over from the successor site to the old EDSBS:
This is a pretty good slate for MACTION. It’s interesting that Wisconsin got moved to Thursday night because that likely presages a national broadcast. That game is winnable unless Fickel’s team is markedly improved this fall. Rutgers also has the potential to fly the MAC Jolly Roger. And UNLV is a nice peer-to-peer matchup; I’d guess our return game out there will be a popular alumni trip.
In conference, we get to start by delivering our best personal regards to NIU before the door hits them in the ass before an easier stretch. Ohio and Toledo back to back are likely to be the fulcrum on how good the season will be.
I was hoping that Ohio was going to stay in October on saturday. Doesnt matter to me for this year but going forward
Also we are missing out on 3 first year coaches and kent who was by far the worst team in the country- not an easy Mac schedule
Agree on the difficulty of the MAC schedule. Expect the same next year for basketball as they try to schedule your pod members twice but then let the bottom teams play each other twice and not play the top teams all twice.
As someone who tries to go to every game, this is a challenging travel schedule. Trips to Wisconsin, Rutgers, NIU, Buffalo at night in November (It often snows their in October) are all longer than anything we had last season.
As for playing OU at night in November, an agreement was reached with ESPN a few years ago that the big rivalry games would be rotated between being on Saturday in October or at night in November. We had our two years of playing OU on October Saturdays, now we rotate out and the ones which were played on weeknights in November the last two years will play on October Saturdays next year.
November road games in Buffalo are always a pain in the ass even if they suck too, not ideal. But the reality is that if we’re talented and well coached enough to remain atop the MAC, missing out on cupcakes like Kent for tougher teams shouldn’t matter.
Shouldn’t but it does. Playing tough games week after week without getting a few easy games mixed in wears on you and leads to being banged up or injured more often.
Me +7 or 8 to blow up Peed On Stadium on 11/4. No mercy.
I realized it was a long shot but I am slightly bummed we don’t have a road game at UMass game because:
- Win.
- Easy road trip for this guy.
- Maybe this time it wouldn’t have included 2 lightning delays and 9 hours to complete the game.
It may already have been mentioned, but it’s really odd that our MAC home opener is October 18th!
Kinda late, don’t you think?
I CANNOT WAIT FOR THAT HOMECOMING GAME AGAINST LINDENWOOD!!! Yager is gonna be rocking!!
I suppose it’s a fine institution, but it sure as hell sounds like we’re playing an assisted living community. (OTOH when Treadwell was here we would have been three-point home dog to an assisted living community, so I won’t complain too much.)
Hopefully when they renegotiate the media contract it will have less rivalry games during the week and less weekday games in general. Really kills the buzz
If only it was a little later in the season we could have miami - lindenwood in hockey and football on the same day
