Any idea what else this means? Is this positive or negative?
This is just the consequence of the landscape that is handed to us.
Negatives:
- The P4 all play 9, I believe. So there are fewer 7 figure pay days available
- playing G6 at home or on the road, and FCS at home is likely a loss in $$, and at best break even.
Positives:
- Secures additional TV revenue (1 edit, this is not a lot of $$)
I am sure there are good reasons for it
Personally I am not that excited but I maybe wishing for an era that no longer exits
I used to love the non conference games and our chance at upsets. I didnt love being at Acrisure two weeks ago
I have been told we need 2 away P4 games each year so I am guessing this means a home fcs game and the series with wku- unlv- james madison - uconn wont happen in the future
More wins = more bowls = more money?
We theoretically already have a full slate OOC slate next year with Stonehill, Nebraska, Purdue, and WKU. I assume that means we either (i) buy Stonehill out, which would leave us with 0 OOC home games, or (ii) if CUSA also goes to 9 games, we mutually agree to cancel our home and home with WKU.
Mostly unrelated, but there have been some rumors that the Nebraska game will move to the new week 1 (formerly week 0) at a neutral site.
Doesn’t impact 2027. Starts with 2028. We don’t have much scheduled after that.
Nevermind!
If the 9th MAC game “replaces” the FCS game on the schedule, then its an improvement. I’m guessing though that in the years we have 4 MAC home games and 5 away, we’ll still play an FCS at home to up that home game count rather than a team like UConn/UNLV/WKU. As a fan, I’m more interested in the variety of teams like that than playing an extra MAC team we’d see the next year anyways.
Starts in 2028
Could this be a reactive move to the new TV contract?
Can we leave yet?
I’m guessing P4 teams are going to stop scheduling FCS teams soon. I imagine our formula will either 1 P4, 1 G6 and 1 FCS or 2 P4 and 1 FCS.
This will kill off any chance of UC as OOC bc they won’t buy Miami. Unless they can fill the G6 spot
I have a feeling this is just gonna replace the conference title game weekend once the CFP expands again…
