Loyola (Chi) women at Miami Monday

7:00 in Millett. Steve Baker and Carol Smith cover the game on ESPN3. Loyola defeated Miami in Chicago last year by 17. So far this season they are 2-4. On the road they are 1-2, winning at Western Michigan and losing at Milwaukee and Eastern Illinois. At home they are also 1-2, Losing to Virginia and Miami F and beating St. Francis. They are led in scoring by 3 girls between 10 and 13ppg. They are 5-7 JR Maya Chandler, 6-1 SR Sophia Nolan, and 5-10 SR Anna Brown.

Miami is 1-4 and led by 5-10 Soph Maddie Cluse at 19ppg ( 2nd in the MAC) and 5-7 Soph Ivy Wolf at almost 16ppg. Wolf is shooting 94% from the line. Peyton Scott played 15 minutes at Evansville and scored her first 4 points of the year. She is on a record recovery pace following ACL surgery in Mid March. She is not jumping as high or starting as fast, but she has already hit the floor several times and looks just fine. She has been increasing her minutes each game, so look for maybe playing 15-20 minutes.

Coach Hendrix, please stop pressing and running and slow the pace down. Get them to stop reaching in and trying to block every shot. Stay out of foul trouble, slow the pace, and keep your best players on the floor and win a couple of games this week.

And Peyton Scott beginning to show some of her old form.

Loyola was atrocious. Good to see Miami keep their turnovers down. With Peyton, Miami at least has three who can score with Ivy and Cluse as well.

.Well, they won at Western Michigan. Some of them looking bad was our defensive execution. We had an injured starter back after she missed the last two games, the girls stopped reaching in and worked hard to stay between their man and the basket and force them to shoot over us. Simple fundamental things, but things we had been doing very poorly. We cut way down on fouls and we did not press, so we were not wearing ourselves out. Result was we kept on the court most of the time our best players and we had our best performance, which made Loyola look worse than they actually are.
