Outside of our usual discussions…
Due to my Miami Accounting & Marketing degree, several years ago I was asked to be on the Board of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Legacy and Research Association and ended up chair of the 2022 Laurapalooza academic conference. We are trying to drive up registration and working our networks for anyone that might be interested (there will be a panel that Little House is for men too). The conference is incredible so I wanted to pass the word.
It’s in Sioux Falls South Dakota July 8th-July 11th. If you are interested, it’s www.liwlra.org
If you have any questions, I can answer or point you in the right direction.
Our conference was in Springfield in 2017 - between that and the museum opening in 2016, I was too busy talking to make it to the Rock House either time.
That site is sending 2-3 people up to the conference
I checked out the website. Some of those panels look interesting, even as someone who’s read precisely none of the books!
It’s surprising how so many things can be tied back or as the 2019 theme “All Roads Lead to Laura.” or the opposite of Miami football’s theme that not all roads lead to Oxford. In 2022, I presented tying fraud to the books using the in that Reverend Alden wasn’t exactly like the character in the books and tv show.
Now, I know this is gonna seem ridiculous, but I love conventions and events and having been invited to precisely zero, I’ve never been asked to come up with a theme. Lady, this is your lucky day as I’ve got one for you: Think of Laura: find ways to emulate that irascible little Ingles in all you do. I’ve even found you a great theme song for the first night:
That would be awesome if we had karaoke scheduled. I was very involved in the 19 & 22 themes. So see that marketing degree my parents paid for didn’t entirely go to waste.
I admire you. If you need any help otherwise just ping me. I’m in.
