RIP to the front row
I was around him some back in the day when the Brewers played in Seattle and he was part of their broadcast crew. He was a hoot! RIP, Ueck!
RIP Bob!
“When I came up to bat with three men on and two outs in the ninth, I looked in the other team’s dugout and they were already in street clothes.”
“I signed with the Milwaukee Braves for $3000. That bothered my dad, because he didn’t have that kind of dough. But we eventually scraped it up.”
There’s an old Tonight Show where Carson shows Uecker photos from Uecker’s playing days and asks what’s going on. One is a photo of a shirtless Uecker being drenched in beer after the Cardinals won the World Series.
“So, what’s going on here? You’re celebrating a big win?”
“Actually, my teammates are getting me ready to play.”
Hall of Famer and a lot of fun.
Back when Uecker was part of the broadcast team for ABC’s Monday Night Baseball, the broadcast team was filling some time between innings talking about the most recent MLB draft. Someone on the team, I think it was Al “Do you believe in miracles?” Michaels said, “Where were you drafted Bob?” (meaning what round) and Uecker replied “In the Navy”.
Baseball is a little less cool now.
RIP to a legend.
