Is Gotkowski the future or should we explore the portal?

I’m a huge Gotkowski fan but the game against WMU and Fresno is hard to look past. I think the hawks should stick with him for the 2026 campaign but curious what others think based on talent out there and his recent performances.

I think it’s somewhat difficult to assess Gotkowski’s play and potential based on the WMU and Fresno State games. He was essentially running for his life in both games due to poor OL play and poor play calling.

I think both. Get the players you can for the dollars you have while maintaining an open competition

I’d rather focus on oline and others than spend money on a qb. Gotkowski was only a redshirt freshman and clearly showed in his first two games he has talent. Get him support on the line and with his receivers and I think he can really succeed

Carr may have to flip out of Michigan as his game does not fit the new coaches. Maybe he’ll take a year to soak up some Michigan stench and then decide to go someplace where he can play. Or, flip now and come to Miami.

I think we are good with Gotkowski, plus we have Bellisari coming in. Need to use the portal to replace the 8 that are entering the portal from Miami

I would be shocked if we’re not at least trying to upgrade at QB.

As much of a shitshow as the Finn thing was, it would be negligent not at least spin the tires on a portal QB.

What is more beneficial, spending on a QB or O-Linemen??

Yes.

I don’t think the QB we’d get is gonna be that much of a step up above Thomas. Was Finn that much better than him? Only way it would be is if we get lucky with an FCS transfer like Washington state did with cam ward, but then they’ll definitely be gone after 1 year

I will take Cam Ward for a year.

I also thought Finn was better than Gotkowski and way way better than Hesson. I have hopes for Gotkowski and he played well for a freshman.

The odds are that FCS QB will not be Cam Ward. And even with him Wazzu went 12-13 in the 2 seasons he was there

I understand a new QB might not be an upgrade, but competition is never a bad thing. Not to mention the roster isn’t exactly stacked with quarterbacks with game experience. Thomas has played in 4 games total. Three starts. Noah Erlich has never taken a snap and after that is a true frosh.

But if the qb costs the price of 2-4 other players it might not be worth bringing in a guy just for competition

We need to focus on other positions or the QB, regardless of whom it is, will struggle

If you’re not exploring the portal, you’re not doing your job. But that’s not something we need to worry about with Chuck.

We should not be spending big to go after a guy who’d be a certain starter. I’d fully support looking to see if we can grab a cheap option who’d be in the mix in an open competition.

The Portal giveth, and the Portal taketh away.

While I am a firm believer that during a season you “dance with who brung ya,” during the off-season you take whatever gifted athletes may be offered through the portal. I go on record as stating this, however: the portal, as it stands, sucks.
