Gus Ragland named OC

Not sure if this fits into Chuck hiring a real OC or just a stand in. Certainly not an outside perspective either way. Will be interesting.

sounds like Chuck has trust issues and was able to save some $$$ to justify it. Hopefully Gus has a plan and knows how to bend Chuck’s ear at this point

Hopefully this is not just a ā€œyes manā€ hire and Gus will speak his mind on offensive changes, because some changes are sorely needed.

100% agree but can’t say I’m overly optimistic

Making Gus the OC after seeing the lackluster QB development under his watch isn’t exactly filling me with confidence.

I thought the same thing until a RS freshman Gotkowski replaced Hesson

I’ve also wondered if Hesson was the best QB in practice but had stage fright in games.

Chuck needs to update his strategy and incorporate analytics into play strategy decisions. He is a smart coach except when it comes to predictability which is eliminated when using analytics with a decent number of varying plays. So, yes, I’m concerned Chuck will keep calling plays from a piece of paper printed the morning before the game listing the conservative, limited number plays. This is where Steele and Box excel. They smartly rely on analytics and it shows in the Ws and L’s. Traditionally Miami’s head coaches were known for developing coaches, finding ways of being unpredictable AND taking occasional, smart risks.

So you’re telling me nothing about play calling is going to change. Is he going to still be QB coach too?

Gabbert for qb coach?

We won’t know if there will be a change until next season but I’m not optimistic.
