I download the MFRS every year and compare the financials for the three Midwestern MAC schools - sorry UMass - and my numbers match what’s presented in the article to the penny. I also include revenue and calculate the gap to determine how much each school loses on hockey. Western received a huge revenue windfall from winning the natty then turned around and spent almost all of it; you can see their revenue gap remained constant. The other interesting data point is how much both us and BUGS started spending over the past two seasons. This coincides with each school landing their dream coach. Also note the that BUGS revenue rose $300k/80% in one year due primarily to ticket sales and donations. They’re hauled in over $200k in donations last year. Wow. Out of the three schools we lose the most money on our hockey program and, not surprisingly, we’re now generating the least amount of revenue. If you’re a believer in Noreen, well, he could use some extra cash.
