Frisco Football Classic Game Thread - Miami vs UNT

The O line sealed the game on that last drive, even pushing Gabbert to a crucial first down. Get bigger, stronger and quicker guys and you could lead us to a great season next year.

San Diego State had to return the trophy for 36 hours according to their bowl contract so the winner of Miami/UNT could have possession of it for the post game and then the next 24 hours for photo/media opportunities. SDS will get to take it back to campus prior to it returning to Frisco

Agree, maybe a bit more green- but the crowd looked pretty good on tv!

A mutt? I dunno. I did like reading their pregame posts talking about how our Midwest boys wouldn’t be able to compete with Texas talent. Turned out that their “talent” ended up being an okay running game, overrated defense, and a poor man’s Brandon Weeden.

If you thought Hawk Talk was despondent sometimes then you should look at their ad-ridden board. Zero apologists for Seth Littrell, not even an obligatory devil’s advocate or moderate opinion like we may have for Martin after a head-scratching loss. And they’re paying that dude two million per year.

Honestly, I woke up feeling pretty damn proud. We had SO many starters out for the game, and young guys stepped up, guys who had played maybe just a few downs this year. We ran the ball, we passed the ball, defense bent but didn’t break. The crowd looked good for a made up on the spot bowl game, we were the only game on TV at our time, and on regular ESPN. I was getting texts from people I would have not expected. This game only helps as we head into next year. Our team was FOUR points away from finishing 10-3…if we can make a few more plays next year, that can come to fruition.

We should be proud, it’s probably one of the top 3 wins in the Martin era. May not be the brand name we hope will happen but it’s something.

Sober and back home now.

Alex and I were talking before the game at the Green Gator about our chances and he thought Miami was about 2 TDs better than UNT and that we should win. I said, “Are you including the Chuck Martin-factor in your analysis?” About that time RedSea come over and told us that Salopek was out and I was immediately concerned about stopping the UNT rushing attack. When I got down on the field I noticed Weatherford was out as well (found out later from Alex that Weatherford made the decision not to play, a decision that doesn’t sit well with me), and I thought we’re in trouble. Hats off to the defense they really stopped UNT’s run game cold. UNT’s QB was terrible.

Overall great game, great win, and glad Chuck got the OOC FBS monkey off his back.

Sterling Weatherford made the absolutely correct decision for his future. Any kind of injury in the game could cost him his week of practice at the Senior Bowl, an opportunity to showcase his talent before reps from every NFL team. Worse, a major injury could hurt his draft position or end his career, costing him money in either case.

It’s easy to sit at home and say a player should go out and give his all for alma mater but none of us has our future or money on the line.

Why not just pull the plug on your season after four or five games if you know analysts and scouts are projecting you to be drafted or an unsigned free agent?

He didn’t do that and neither has any other NFL prospect I know of. The kid sat out one game after being invited to the Senior Bowl. At this point in his life he (and any other NFL prospect) has to treat it as a business decision. He didn’t sit out to hurt your feelings as a fan, he did it to protect his job future and earning potential. Put yourself in his shoes, what would you do?

My understanding is Weatherford was hurt

I saw those statements too. They must not realize they’re a 6-6 team in whatever conference they are in…

The answer to this is that half of a season is enough to improve your draft stock or for other players to surpass you. If a player was guaranteed to go first overall or that they would be drafted at a particular spot with no chance to improve, then they could stop playing CFB.

Ja’Marr Chase opted out of all of last season and still went in the top 5.

After reading the recent Jake Butt story, I don’t blame anyone for opting out. Not that I really did before though

Now 6-7 - lol

A nice Christmas night surprise is the the Miami-NT game was replayed on ESPNU. I caught the last half while channel surfing. Any air time is good for the brand.

The tackles are going to be good…especially Vaughan (sic) with some more work…interior is pretty good already.

I watched the game with friends in Cincy. Was a nice win.

To show you how hungry I was to enjoy a Miami bowl win I read every article I could find w the game re-cap. Couldn’t get enough of that great feeling of an OOC FBS and bowl win!
