Interesting that the kid who took the huge gamble - and at least temporarily won - at the end of Taylor Sheridanās Landman seriesā most recent season is a Texas Tech grad. Next season weāll find out how if works out for that Red Raider kid once the cartel financier he partnered with flexes his muscle.

Thereās been some reporting that Big XII schools have brought up the idea of boycotting games with Texas Tech. Unlike some of the eligibility cases, even some of those that really pushed things in college basketball, I think a boycott from other schools should be on the table in this case, unlike other cases.
You canāt have players betting on their own games. I know betting on other sports and even other teams in their own sport have legitimate debates on why they should or shouldnāt be allowed. You absolutely can not have guys betting on their own games. Its simple. The whole house of cards falls if you can allow that.
Schools should refuse to play if he plays. A line needs to be drawn somewhere.

The irony here is that TTU could very well crush Sorsby and his career anyways. If he plays and isnāt immediately good, heās gonna be buried by the entire college football world (and TTU).
Good on the Big 12 ADs threatening some action, like HH said thereās only so much you can bend. This is THE fight, if heās allowed to play it puts college football on the path to becoming viewed more as the WWE.
He should not be allowed to play!
If they refuse to play, doesnāt TTU win by forfeit? Then they would end up winning the conference with an undefeated record without playing a game.

First, let me preface by saying, I donāt think Sorsby should ever be allowed to play college football again. What is laughable about this āboycottā is every single one of these coaches/teams talking boycott would do the same thing Texas Tech is doing if Sorsby were on their team.

Itās all well and good for conference members to thump their chests about a boycott but wouldnāt refusing to play bring up breach of contract issues?
I suppose those who are talking about boycotting a game with Texas Tech could argue that it is Tech who is in breach of contract by having an ineligible player on their roster. While Sorsby is currently eligible based on the ruling from the 99th District Court of Lubbock County, I just donāt see another court in all the land ruling that the NCAA canāt enforce what is seemingly a reasonable āno gambling ruleā.

Why doesnāt the NCAA just rule Sorsby ineligible regardless of what a TX judge says?? So, the Sorsby family sues the NCAA? What penalty can be imposed against the NCAA? A fine? Who will enforce the fine? If the NCAA doesnāt pay said fine, who or what can be done about it anyway??
The NCAA rules are set forth by the Universities and if the Universities are all in agreement that Sorsby should be ineligible, what leg does he have to stand on?
Right now Cody Campbell is on the phone trying to convince Greg Abbott to deploy the National Guard to protect Sorsby like heās the Little Rock Nine.

Whereās all the really and I mean it really great Esquire types on this site (Blues/Calohawk and others?) when you need them? He went judge shopping and won and appeal to overturn is next February. What can NCAA and leagues do to correct this huge fubar mess?
As a lawyer that never deals with temporary injunctions or other equitable relief, Iām still confused as to how he was able to show a reasonable likelihood of success on the merits of his underlying claim in order to secure the temporary injunction (which as others have noted might as well be permanent given the timetable involved). Was it really just āI have a mental health problem, you now canāt permanently ban me?ā. Such protections are afforded to employees perhaps, but clearly this is not that situation.
