Given what we brought in, this would be extremely dissappointing. I know we have questions at QB after TG took a step back after the first game or two, but if he can pick it up, or the highly touted (out of HS) Kansas QB steps in, we should win 9 or 10 games. This is our best pre-season roster we’ve maybe ever seen.
What I also want to see is if we are outspending Kent by 8 times then lets win 42-10.
I dont want “we knew it would be a close defensive game” and win these somewhat boring field position games
Those games are fine when playing western or pitt but there should be a difference between us and the bottom of the league
TG didn’t take a step back. He took a beating those last two games, the OL did nothing.
redskin89- totally agree- even when we tried to block with 5 OL to the opposing team 4 TG in our last two games was in trouble. WMU went after him and tried in my opinion to hurt him in Detroit . Play calling also terrible in the last two games - few short routes, roll outs , misdirection runs , no use of our TE,s etc. Do we have a “ named OC “ ( other than CM ) ?
We can have as much talent as possible but unless the O line is properly prepared and the play calling helps protect we will not win any more than last year. Prove me wrong, Chuck.
TG was an unexpected surprise to start, then the game beat him up, not his fault. One benefit is he got his reps and has a better understanding of what he needs to do to succeed. Also hopefully competition in camp elevates the play at the position.
Play calling was atrocious in those 2 games as already noted. Why the hell can’t we drag the tight end over the middle, or run a quick slant?
CM loves his back shoulder fade. If he would use the tight ends more, we would be more dangerous.
Hate the fade, especially when we are in the red zone and we throw that corner of the end zone fade (that hardly ever works!). You need a tall, athletic receiver (not to mention an accurate QB) to successfully complete that pass. It’s such a low percentage play…I scream at the TV every time I see us try it! How about a quick slant over the middle thrown low?
I don’t mind the occasional long-ball “prayer” throw as it keeps the defense honest and can always draw a PI call. The operative word is occasional.
