He is now the highest paid employee of the U (I assume–not going to bother to check). And, as posted, is more than 9 NFL starting QBs earn.
Outrageous. And I don’t care that some rich boosters are going to pay most/all of the $4M. Absolutely disgusting what the system has produced. And it’s getting worse.
They’re still not gonna make the playoffs….
You can’t overestimate how many rich alums want to be close to these programs and also let people know how rich and important they are.
Technically, he’s not being paid by Miami of Florida, and thus not an employee (highest paid or otherwise) of Miami of Florida.
Where do we still think we need help?
WR - I’d say we’re good. Added three P5 players. That said, I’d take another given our inexperience.
TE - Have to think we’re done adding.
OL - Added three, but I’d keep going if the right option is out there.
DL - Added 1. I’d like at least another edge rusher and d tackle if not more.
LB - Haven’t added any, but I’m not sure we need to.
DB - Added Beasley. Actually not in horrible shape in terms of returning players. I’d take another corner though. And it seems like were targeting corners.
RB - Seems like we’re looking. An experienced player would help solidify the position.
QB - Assuming all goes well with Finn, we’re obviously done.
About that… still silence from Miami and Finn himself. Paperwork must be traveling via USPS
Alot of money is being bandied about…could someone swoop in and entice him to go elsewhere?
Yes taking very long
Our NIL tweeted “welcome to the legacy” right when it was announced by on3
Yeah, there are only 32 NFL teams and the odds of being wealthy/influential enough to even become a minority owner are extremely low. Donating big money to college football is a decent backup plan.
I saw a report a few years ago that Chicago State University got only ~$1,000 of athletic donations in a single year, I was almost tempted to give enough so I could say I was the top donor of a DI college for the laughs.
Well, multiple sources said he committed to us, and I am sure verbally he did. Is there paperwork to sign to make it official?
I may be too optimistic for a change, but I don’t believe the receiver we just got would have come to Oxford if Quinn were not in the fold.
Yeah I agree, the signs definitely all point to it being legit. I’m just going to be a little nervous until he actually signs. The NIL/Portal world is a wild one.
I would not be surprised if henry transfer to he be an redshirt seniorr
A recent court ruling held, IIRC, that athletes are employees of the institution they play for. As such, they should be paid as university employees, including annual “salary” of up to $35,000/yr. Not sure which ruling, maybe House, but I know the ruling was made.
FBS coaches voted unanimously to suggest only one 10 day transfer portal window in January. Makes sense and I’d expect this happens given the support from coaches. The current portal window period is not sustainable from a work load standpoint for coaches, especially as the season is still going for many.
I do fear a short 10 day window will mean a lot of under the table tampering in December as coaches will want to know where they are at with so little time, but not sure there is ever a way to cut that out completely.
My guess is this helps combat bowl hold-outs too. Players are incentivized to jump in as soon as it opens before spots fill up.
Bowls will also give players a big national game to “showcase” since they can’t sign while bowls are going on. May actually encourage participation as opposed to the current window which definitely discourages bowl participation.
I don’t understand how this is compatible with academic calendars. An athlete is supposed to enter the portal, be "recruited ", visit prospective campuses, enroll and move to their new school before classes begin in January?
Changing the portal to once per year and placing it in January is certainly good for coaches but limiting for athletes. I suspect a legal challenge from an impacted athlete or group of athletes would be able to overturn this system if it is adopted.
I think the portal would be Jan 2nd to 12th so most schools would just be starting
