If anyone on the team is going to get the nod, I think it would probably be Gotkowski.
Not to disparage Hesson or Kopp as they’ve been patient and good teammates it seems, but the fact that neither was seen as a viable option over Aveon last year is kind of telling. Aveon was obviously popular in the locker room and had heart, but it was clear if there was any other option they would have gotten reps. You can’t take anything from the Cure Bowl, it was a monsoon, so I don’t hold that against either guy.
Alot will depend on whether Chuck thinks Gotkowski is game ready. I’m an Indy local so I remember him from Ben Davis, he put up some monster high school numbers. If he is, then maybe we have another young starter on our hands. If not, maybe bring in a portal senior or fifth year player and let the young guy get another year to learn and grow into the college game.

We’ve offered 2 QBs (that I know of) Joey Aguilar from App state and Conner harrel from UNC, so clearly they are going after a QB

Chuck thinks very highly of the potential of the QB just signed in the freshman class coming in this fall - so if he can’t pull in a veteran QB from the portal, don’t sleep on the possibility that the true freshman steals the starting job this fall. I think he sees the new recruit’s ceiling higher than anyone in the QB room right now.

It closed Saturday
Last day to enter the portal was saturday, unless your team is in a bowl or playoffs in which case you have up to 5 days after your final game, also there are exceptions if your coach leaves

South Dakota St QB hit the portal with one year left. He’s from Chicago. I wonder if we’re in on him. We are Chicago’s MAC team after all.
