Looking back at last year, obviously we eventually ended up losing several key dudes… but it’s still amazing how many stayed after last season. We honestly could have been starting an entirely different team (especially on defense) if a lot of the guys followed the trend set by the conference brethren.
I thought Mr. Orth’s performance with LIU when he faced us was one of the gutsiest I have ever seen. He was getting blasted play after play but he kept stepping up and delivering quality balls.
Both of these players citing “dreams of playing in the NFL” in their posts. I hope they see how Caiden woullard, Rashad Amos, and gage larvadain’s draft stock is doing
As a developmental program, it would appear we’re only going to have our All Conference players recruited out of high school for no more than two or three years. Both of these guys were recruited out of high school. Getting solid value out of the portal - like we did with Cade, Brian, Ty, John Young and others who will stick it out two or three years as experienced upperclassmen - is going to be increasingly important.
The kind of success Dillinghsm and Cignetti had so quickly this season might become the new most competitive model.
Ugh not surprised but still sucks. It will continue to be awful between now and the 28th of December. We have so many seniors too- next year will be quite the unknown
The new reality of MAC football is this. We’ll get great recruiting finds for two years that go portaling or we’ll get guys who couldn’t make it at the higher level come down (or up from FCS) for a year or two. Even those guys who drop down or move up, we’ll have to get use to them portaling after a one year rental like Amos and Gage if they have success. Really going to feel like mercenaries.
The times of having guys spend 4 years at Miami, especially impact players, are going to be very rare.
I think that’s where those two new player personnel staff positions will earn their money. They’ll be mining the portal for talented replacements who fit our needs and culture.
Marshall’s starting QB entered the portal today, 24 hours after winning the Sun Belt championship. Betting on bowl games is becoming increasingly unhealthy.
Really the only guys to keep an eye on now are Tracy, Jados and Blakey. Quite frankly we don’t have much left after that in terms of returning production. Maybe Silas Walters.
As far as the collective goes, the fact that Virgil and Strader jumped in the portal so quickly makes me think we never really had a shot at retaining them. But who knows.
Top 30 university for alumni wealth, 9th most amount of Fortune 500 CEOs as alumni. We can crush the MAC and really elevate to a national level if we can get alumni on board. But there lies the issue
