One thing Miami will need to address as far as facilities is Yager. It opened my freshman year, and I was at the very first game played there. But that was 1983. We at a very minimum need to redo the home side. We need something with more suites, a little more modernity. Student side needs some sprucing up as well. Need to make this stadium look like what we as an athletic depoartment aspire to be.

@Blues IMHO, the stadium is perfectly acceptable for a mid-major. Would rather use that money to bring in more interesting and bigger name teams, as this will generate more interest than playing other teams in the Mid-America conference. Miami playing home games against teams, like Syracuse, Navy, army, Pitt, and other similar teams would generate more fan interest than just having a renovated stadium. But, then again, it ain’t my money!

Yager could use other revenue generating facilities like suites for donors/corporate engagement etc…

I agree w Carm a better OOC schedule is first needed to generate interest. Of course once you have that better schedule, you need to start being more competitive in those games. (are ya listening, Chuck?)
When they renovated Ball State’s stadium 15-20 years ago, they put in some nice luxury suites on the home side. My brother (BSU grad and athlete there) and a BSU grad buddy went in together and got a suite, and had it for a number of years. They gave it up because of both the uninspiring slate of opponents as well as BSU’s inability to compete for a MAC title. They couldn’t get anyone interested to going to the suite, which was expensive to maintain.
So yeah the Suites are nice revenue enhancers, but you need a product that well heeled fans want to see.

With the way college football scheduling is going (more conference games + conference requirements to play at least 1 power OOC game), our schedule is likely to get weaker, not stronger going forward.
I don’t think its realistic to expect anything more than a FCS team and then a CUSA type team as our home slate. A team like UConn which we have coming in, is probably the top quality realistic opponent we can bring in. Pitt or Syracuse, definitely not. Army would probably be a reach but in play as doable.
Now once another wave of realignment hits, maybe we are a bit up the totem pole and have more options.
Can’t help but think Football is the wrong pony to be betting on at Miami. But I’ve felt that way for years.

I think we are making the right bet that another wave of realignment is lingering and, if we are going to keep FBS level football (or whatever the equivalent is of that), we need a strong football program to align ourselves with the best G6 programs for that realignment which would benefit both major sports. I don’t think the dream of us ending with the ACC remnants is super realistic, but whatever the top conference is below that is realistic if we position ourselves correctly.
The other alternative would be to totally drop football to FCS type level and target something like the A10 or MVC, but we’re clearly not going that direction given recent news.

I’m down for some more suites, maybe extending to each end ofthe concrete. But my rule is you gotta be younger than 75 to get one.

All G5 schools are in that boat… Miami playing a service academy, an ACC team and an American, lower Big 12 or B1G or C-USA team doesn’t seem too outrageous of an ask.
Would be more interesting than Lindenwood, LIU or Norfolk State

I am not knocking Yager. So perhaps I was misunderstood. Yes, it is fine for a mid major. But if we are looking to “level up” then it needs some “leveling up” as well and I stand by my original comments. It appears Miami’s aspirations are higher than the MAC (and they should be), and if so all facilities matter. I am not saying tear Yager down and build anew like we are doing with BB and VB. But spruce it up a bit to be on par with the Dauch Indoor Sports Facility. And of course I would like to see the money continue to flow for rosters. That is the new reality. But the two, sprucing up Yager and roster money are not mutually exclusive, not a one or the other, or at least, they shouldn’t be.

I’d like to see us do the bigger press box on the home side, as already is planned, and then add an upper level to the student sides that includes suites and a few more seats. The student side is designed to include an upper level.
At least we are finally getting a elevator that goes to the second floor of the press box this spring! That’s progress

I would suggest that an $8m roster with 1-2 losses each year would benefit far more than suites in the short term.
This is such an incredible story I just blew it off with my normal skepticism. Then I went back and read the CBS report. I mean, can this be real?? It’s just incredible!
And to think what Sayler must be lining up for the new arena, Steele and his coaches salaries, and hoops NIL $$. You would think that’s where the big money would go! Must strike “while the iron is hot”, and it’s “red hot” right now!
Call me crazy but I am starting to think that Miami is gonna put a $1 mil a year with incentives on the table for Steele.

I tend to agree. If MU matched TTU’s offer for Trick, it’s pretty clear the folks in charge know what they’re doing and finally are starting to have the resources to do it.
I just don’t see why Steele would want to leave: significantly increased NIL money, a new stadium, family lives in the area and is establishing its roots, player retention, and it’s not like he’s going to be on the hot seat for a down year as he would elsewhere.
I don’t get the Butler or UC narrative. OSU is such a high pressure job. IU is not really much different. I think he’s in the sweet spot and the fact he talks about player retention, etc., tells me he has the right perspective.
With that being said, MU must pay him and his assistants competitively.
