Minor league baseball is beloved and has its niche.
I am always unsure about these kinds of articles. I know Indiana upset the apple cart, but CFB has always been about a select few programs and the rest are fodder.
Difference is that MLB doesn’t actively collude against minor league BB. I’m sure the G6 would love equal access to the revenue streams that the NCAA prevents them from getting at
Are you sure about that? Before the 2021 season, MLB ended its long-standing agreement with the minor league teams and forced a restructuring with only four MiLB affiliates per franchise (120 total), resulting in 42 historic teams being disaffiliated from organized professional baseball.
I don’t think the P4 can collude to toss G6 teams out of the NCAA altogether, but these days who the hell knows.
P4 can’t kick out a G6 team, but they’ve done a bang up job of keeping them out of lucrative bowl games and the playoffs
Yeah, the power conferences figured out that they can have their cake and eat it by giving token access to G5/6 after Hoovering all of the major programs for themselves.
Imo the status quo will prevail. Guaranteeing a single G6 bid to the playoffs isn’t a big deal for them and prevents antitrust issues. The G6 won’t drive much more fan interest or money on a kid’s table playoff, so we’ll take what we’ve got. Best we can hope is for the PCSA to stem the issues with an unlimited transfer portal.
The notion that antitrust law (something this country barely enforces anymore even when applicable) will come to the rescue of the G6 and level a table that hasn’t been level in over a century has always been fool’s gold.
The reality is that the G6 is free to break off on their own any time they want. The reason they don’t is simply that they’ve calculated that the current arrangement is worth more than their product would be on its own.
Having a product that far fewer people want and that hasn’t been invested in at comparable levels to the competition pretty much from the beginning isn’t an antitrust issue.
Why wouldn’t there be an antitrust issue? There are more G6 schools than P4 and they have less access to the revenue. They been systematically prevented from

If you were a part of google’s organization and eligible for that revenue than yes, I’d assume you’d want fair access
But the organization isn’t the NCAA in this case. It’s the conference, no?
