Do players today not use the backboard anymore?

I’ve been complaining about this for years. Players when they’re close to the basket look to just loft the ball over the rim instead of just a simple bank shot. Check the end of the NIT and see how a simple skill can determine who hoists the trophy

And don’t get me started on letting the players dunk again. It just all went to hell when they banned the center jump!

The bank is open!

Where is Lynn Shackelford when you need him?

How many on this board remember him from the great UCLA teams?

It is great to see this post. An old school coach friend was of the opinion that coaches today have lost the importance of using the glass in shooting in the paint area. He claimed failure to properly use the glass will cost a team 4/6 points a game . Potter and others on our team could improve their game significantly if they worked on the proper use of glass or backboard shots. Hopefully Coach will include " glass practice " next year as a part of regular practice time.

I remember him. How about Sam Jones from the Celtics teams of the 60’s ? He also made regular use of the glass.

I think 89% of Alex Shorts’ shots used the glass. He could somehow even do it from the baseline.

Shackelford had an unbelievable deep corner shot especially from the right side that was almost unstoppable.

D Hawk, and now that travelling is legal there’s no time to shoot off the glass!

Rick Goins banked everything. And it was a heavy bank with a lot of backspin…More than any other Miami player I ever saw. And he actually graduated as the sixth all-time leading scorer at Miami.
