Disturbing news out of Columbus

Head Women’s basketball coach Kevin McGuff (and former Miami asst back in the mid 90’s) was arrested for a DUI. The released body camera is not good. IMHO, time for a coaching change. Oh, but he pled “not guilty”.

Head coach at Ohio State.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought MotherMiami was talking about Ohio Dominican University.

No excuses for driving drunk ever. It is easier than ever now to get a taxi, lyft, uber to get home. If you want to drink go right ahead and do it but don’t put others in danger out on the road.

Watched the first seven minutes. Someone remind me: Even though he was just in his driveway and they couldn’t prove he was on the road, could he be charged?

Terrible look though.

He was so close to making it in the house

All those Maryland fans he told to F off should come jeer him at his house.

I’m no lawyer but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once. They can probably subpoena evidence and statements from the drivers who called reporting it. They can probably also find some camera footage somewhere since everything is on camera these days. He admitted to driving to his house multiple times in the encounter with the police. If the keys were in the ignition while he was in the driveway even is the car isn’t on he can be charged with drunk driving. They can probably subpoena his cell phone and get location pings on it showing he was driving. I guess the question is how far they want to go into the investigation. To some extent I think the black boxes in the cars now can track movement and information about when vehicle was on, speeds, etc… Again not a lawyer but did watch several law and crime shows on tv. I watched Night Court back in the day too if that counts.

I got a “passing a stopped school bus” ticket in Oxford back in the ‘90s. The school bus driver reported my plate to a cop, the cop asked me to stop by the station and then asked me if I was involved in passing a school bus, and I said “Maybe”? Cop gave me a ticket, had to see good ol’ Judge Oney, who nicely gave me a $100 fine and messed up my insurance.

What I should have done is either not show up, or say “I wasn’t even driving that day, and it sounds like a bus driver has a wild hair up her arse for some strange reason. I dunno”, then be on my merry way.

LOL. They got some tough muggs at that joint.

What a nightmare for Coach McGuff and his family.
Besides getting his masters degree at Miami, he served as an assistant for Maria Fantanerosa before making a great career move by becoming an assistant at Notre Dame, then a head coach at Xavier and Ohio State. He has a daughter who has played for Bowling Green the last two seasons.

Dick, I thought you would remember his history with us. Unfortunately, if this does cost him his job (newer A.D. with not a lot of history with him)…I’m thinking OSU with all its moola would go after a head coach like K. Lawson (Duke) or J. Lillis Baranczyk (sp?) (Oklahoma and her own Big 10 playing career). Either way, yes, this is a terrible nightmare for him and his family. There just isn’t an excuse anymore and we’re talking all this went down around 8pm at night.

This should cost him his job whether its a new AD not familiar with him or he’s Bob Huggins and basically the mayor of Morgantown.

Not saying his whole career should be over (many have come back from DUIs), but you can’t be a leader of young men or women and show that poor of judgment.

Terrible judgment for anyone in a visible position like a head coach to be that sloshed in public at dinner like that even before you get to the DUI. He seemed bombed in the video.

Maybe he can take the Solich route and plead that he was roofied

Drunk driving anytime is bad, but during daylight hours in the spring is especially bad. His street, while residential, is busier than most, as it is used to get from Muirfield (which connects a highway and 3 residential golf courses) and Coffman (where a high school is located and near the community rec center and Cardinal Health’s world headquarters). Fortunately, no one was hurt.
