Directional Michigan: Final home series/senior weekend

Sure would be a welcome change of pace!

4-3 after Western scores with the extra attacker with 3:21 to go.

And we’re tied with 2:21 to go. :confounded:

Giving up a two goal lead very late conjures up nightmares.

Bad memories of 2009…

OT. As usual, I hate free hockey.

Well, that didn’t take long. Western gets the winner 36 seconds into OT.

So reminiscent of the BU experience. Did it bounce off the back of our defenseman?

You may wonder why I gave a heart to both Bonk and KamuOhio. It is because they are both longtime posters and fans who have passion for Miami and just have different viewpoints on what would be best for our future. This should definitely be the place to express those opinions and hopefully with respect. Certainly no one is happy with things as they are.

Anyone who suggests cutting the program was never truly a fan.

Cutting a team is a hurt that never goes away. I’m still pissed about men’s tennis getting the axe. Hockey is better than last year. It can keep improving. Not worth losing.

I’m angry and disgusted with where we are. We have squandered a program that did and was set to compete at the highest level for a long time. I’m allowed to have irrational thoughts and please don’t question my fandom.

Is it better? Fewer conference wins (3 to 4), and a much larger gap up to 7th place (11 points versus 1 point last year). Multiple embarrassing beatdowns all year (4-0, 7-1, 4-0, 5-0, 7-0,7-0, 8-0, 5-0). In what crack addled pipe dream is that better? How can one possibly look at this train wreck and see it as some foundation for improvement next year?

I’m no expert, but at times, I thought we looked better. I am still a hockey fan though despite the drop in our play. Nothing I think or feel will translate into more or less of anything. So I choose to be happy we have a team to follow. A lot of schools don’t. My sense is that you should ask your doctor if following men’s hockey is right for you. It probably isn’t.

Hawk 99 was just laying out some comparative and demonstrative facts. It’s not unreasonable to have doubts that the program is improved, or even heading in the right direction.

He’s absolutely entitled to his point of view. And so am I to mine. We don’t have to agree on everything all the time. This is ‘Murica.

The eye test and the blow outs would say we aren’t better.

And the W/L record.

Miami has eight wins and four ties, so essentially 10 wins. Last season MU won 7 plus two ties for eight wins.

This season’s schedule was tougher. Michigan State was way better and Ferris State was improved. Lowell was ranked, Niagara is middle of the pack and Canisius isn’t great. Last season Miami played a decent BUGS team and bottom dwellers Mercyhurst and Long Island.

So did Miami improve? Yes. Did the RedHawks improve enough? No.

Recruiting extremely poor and I am not certain about the coaching. I still do not understand how the WMU program is so much better than Miami. Of course Oxford is not in Michigan ( thank God ) and there may be more hockey camps in Michigan and Minn BUT there are fundamental problems with the program at present. Hawk 99 I have a hard time accepting that we simply have a geography problem. Our AD needs to have an outside independent review of the program. Simply leaving our league is not a solution and it would be a great mistake to drop the program. Observer made some excellent points in his post - check it out. Lets get this program fixed- hire someone from the WMU program that can recruit and if necessary change the coaching staff- another year ( again ) like this last year is not an option.
