Debate (2) The real question

A friend of ours from LA always raves about “Dodger Dogs”.?( At Dodger Stadium)

Yellow mustard and onions for me. Brat….peppers, onions and yellow mustard

Love the sweet and spicy mustard, dill relish…and sauerkraut…on a Nathan’s Famous dog…I’m salivating as I type this.

Went to an arts festival last night and had a bratwurst w spicy mustard and kraut. The wait in the food trucks long line was justified. BTW, there are a lot of talented people in this world. About 150 vendors and 150 beautiful and/or intriguing things.

Nathan’s are my go to dog if I am assigned to grill.

It’s Nathan’s for me. Joey Chestnut can’t seem to get enough of them. Of course I prefer not to dip the buns in water and would rather have mustard, sometimes brown sometimes yellow, depending on my mood. Grilling is best, but I’ve found that the air fryer actually does a decent job.

At the Virgin River Casino in Mesquite, NV, where I spend a lot of time on my trips to Nevada, they always had a hot dog cart next to the casino with 75 cents hot dogs with all the possible toppings and I have tried them all. I have settled on ketchup, mustard, and relish as my favorite, with Kraut and mustard once in awhile for variety…The last week I was there in the spring they suddenly shut down the cart and moved hot dogs into the snack bar for $1.25. Sign of the times. At this casino they allow you to swipe your players card at a kiosk once a day and you either get a free hot dog or a $1 or $2 discount coupon for the Buffett. About equal chance of getting any of the 3 options.

Mustard only for me. Never ketchup or onions (I can’t stand onions).

Also, FB has a group called Chowdown Cincinnati that has swelled to over 260,000 members, and we regularly talk about the need for Cincinnati to get a Portillo’s. It’s criminal that Skipper’s and Chicago Gyros by UC are the only places in the region that feature Vienna hot dogs.

Missed business opportunity…even in chain-heavy Cincinnati.

In addition to my main order, I always get a chili dog with cheese and onions for dessert on my Portillo’s visits.

The chili dog debate gets heated some places. Detroit for example. I personally think Netty’s in Marblehead is the best place in the world to get two dogs w onions and mustard. Cheese-no thank you. Packo’s is another story. Been eating those dogs since before most of you were born. My father worked at Gulf Oil just a short ways from Packo’s. Always brought food from there home on Fridays. Instead of Frischs while in high school I took my date to Tony’s.

Any standup comedians do a bit on mustard?

It sure does Skin. Lafayette imo is the best. I get it every time I’m home

Someone mentioned secret ingredients above. Lafayette uses deer heart as theirs….so legend goes.

Loved their ( now removed) parking lot sign: “Parking for Tony Packo’s customer parking only…Violators tires will be slashed”

I agree w Lafayette. Always wanted to take the short walk between the two places and make a judgement, but never have. Our son works in Detroit, so maybe someday.

Sounds like the perfect post-back-to-back MAC football championships activity to me.

The two famous dog places are next to each other on Layayette in downtown Detroit. Very much like the SNL Cheesburger skit. Always were run by Greeks/Albanians/whatever. One guy would stand outside to “encourage” me to come in. When I was alone and at the busy lunch hour, they would find a seat at an already occupied table and hustle you into that seat. Strange, but classic Detroit coney island.

Hey, I love Detroit and all, but Lafayette and American barely qualify as dog food.

I would classify the Detroit places as better than dog food but far below Nettys and also the Toledo chili dog spots. I still would encourage a Miami contingency to visit both after we win another MAC TITLE this year. BTW, never been to Varsity in Atlanta, anybody?
