College Hockey Postseason

They were calling for his head after last season too. They’ve been begging for him to get fired for a while. Drives me absolutely nutty bc he’s brought them Penrose cups in half the years he’s been coaching them, has never had a losing season, produces NHL talent, brought them a national championship etc and they still whine and complain about all their “suffering”. Imagine how fans like us feel!

I said to a friend a couple days ago that I hope they actually fire berry and hire bergeron and he shows them what it actually feels like to have your program tank since they want to be the victims so bad. She said she’d never wish that on her worst enemy and I went too far with that one😂

Nodak fans are the bane of my existence I can’t stand them. Good for them to be supporters of a program that can have this high of expectations but they are always moaning and groaning about something and will continue to do so no matter who the coach is.

I saw a tweet yesterday from a nodak fan complaining about how they had an unfair chance at recruiting because they don’t have the money to support NIL. Like go cry about it in your state of the art altitude room with your 15 draft picks. You think the MAC schools in this conference are rolling around in dough for hockey? Or SCSU? Omaha? You get plenty of highly talented kids wanting to play there based on your name alone.

I saw them complain because they beat a (good) team in OT and not in regulation. Someone posted a clip of them beating us years ago saying what has happened to the team we love as if the team on the other side isn’t actively experiencing the worst falloff of NCHC (probably NCAA) history. They had a player go on camera and bitch about how they were down 4-2 against us at one point in a game (that they won) as if that’s inconceivable we could actually play hockey sometimes. The first-world problems of these fans baffle me. I can’t stand the entitlement and I could rant about them all day😂

How do the NCAA tournament brackets look? How many teams did the NCHC get into the tourney this year?

ds

Two. WMU as a 1-seed and Denver as a 3. That does support the “if WMU then why not us” argument, though I think it’s a bit more complex than that.

I don’t think It’s all that complex but I’ll agree getting it right can be tricky. Petino turned St. John’s around in a year. Cal took Arkansas to the Sweet 16 in his first year as a 10 seed. Alex Bump picks a crappy university in a crappy city with crappy facilities over traditional blue bloods like Nodak and Minnesota. What’s the common denominator? This is why I was on a six-year rant over our former coach.

Do we now have the right coach? I think/hope so but time will tell.

Back to lurking.

Thanks Hawk! Very high seeds! But doesn’t the NCHC usually have 3-4 berths in the tourney? Are there any up and coming leagues, or was this season a bit of an off year for NCHC, (or maybe ust dominated by two exceptional teams?)

Usually the NCHC does have more teams but because the championship game was between the two teams that already were going to be in the tournament anyways we didn’t have an auto-bid team make it.

Also ASU’s pairwise wasn’t good enough to get in which is unusual having the #2 NCHC team (and the only team to beat every conference team in regulation) not in the tourney.

Hockey East and the Big 10 have the most tournament bids with 6 and 4 but I wouldn’t call them up and coming😂 The ECAC has 2, Atlantic and CCHA only have 1 which isn’t unusual.

Every year we run into the “beating up on each other” problem where even if both teams playing against each other are good somebody has to take the L. Only 5 conference points separated 2nd-5th place so it was tight in the upper half after first place where our other tournament teams would usually come from. But I think specifically this year the NCHC struggled in non conference play at the beginning of the season which screwed us over later.

It’s been a weird season overall, I dont think many predicted WMU to dominate like they did or for ASU and Omaha to also make the top 4.

I think Miami being 63 in pairwise probably hurt the NCHC teams that were on the edge of the torunament

It’s all our fault

Well unfortunately that’s not a new problem for the other NCHC teams, we’ve been pretty low the past few years.

I’m trying to find the exact non-conference record but having those losses against teams from other conferences makes the NCHC teams wins against each other count for less and those other conferences teams wins against each other count for more.

Insert whatever they say about a rising tide floating all boats :joy:

Usually we’re at least in the upper .600s. There’s only been two seasons we’ve finished worse in non conference play; the NCHC’s first season in existence and the Covid year.

Yeah but weren’t we in the 40s last year vs 60s this year

Yeah moving from 49 to 63 is part of it (Especially since we have four losses against 58 and 59). We did significantly worse in non conference play against worse teams dragging us down.

I’m just saying it’s not ALL our fault. Last season the team right above us in the nchc standings was at 30 in the pairwise and they were the lowest team that wasn’t us. This year Omaha, CC, Duluth, and St Cloud were all 30 or below. Kinda an off year for the conference overall, and having half the teams in the conference being bottom halfers makes it hard to get “meaningful” wins in pairwise’s eyes the whole second half of the season.

Now if we had actually beat some of these teams I would say it’s all our fault because that’d certainly tank pairwise rankings in the conference

No Dak fans spend way too much time snowed inside their basements.,detached from reality.

I feel so bad for the North Dakota people. First they lose their nickname and have to change it and on top of that have to live in freaking North Dakota. I guess what else do you have to do in North Dakota rather than complain about actually having a hockey team that you can say is competitive and relevant on the national stage.

I mean heck since we last went to the NCAA tournament in 10 yrs ago North Dakota has been 6 times, won the conference championship 5 times, won a national title, been to the frozen 4 twice. I don’t know how much worse it can be. They haven’t had a losing season since 01-02. I’d kill someone for half of that success

1 seed MSU loses to Cornell, and 1 seed WMU currently in 2OT. Looks like the portal hasn’t destroyed parity in college hockey

Drazner OT gamewinner incoming

I feel bad for Umass/Minnesota having to wait this out in the locker rooms. And given how well both teams have been playing defensively it might be a while

Michigan State losing is hysterical! Considering how many teams they raided to build that program.
