My 1989 all freshman intramural team went all the way to finals and fell by a couple to those bastards at DTD! We went 6’5”, 6’3” & 6’2” on the front line and our guards could hit the trey! We practiced at Lebanon maximum security prison against the inmates. We were that serious!

Have fun breaking the press in a prison against murderers that are scary as hell?

This is equal parts bleak AF and Amazing!!! Thanks for posting. Must have been wild. Prison games…insane.

The first time we played them, we got smoked, it was like 54-4 at half, I couldn’t be the ball over half court. The 2nd time we played them we only lost by two points. BTW the prison never loses, but the other inmates always root on the visitor! Kinda interesting you got the Arian nation the Crips…. All rooting for you!

That is wild. Honestly. Just bonkers. Insane story, but very interesting.

They normally play church teams, which are old white guys trying to make a difference but can’t play that well anymore. The prison likes it when they have a good match.

We played there because two of us( the guards) were Townies that officiated basketball locally, so we had done many games at the prison and they were always looking for games.

BTW the prisoners were very nice during the games. The craziest and scariest part was there was only one prison guard in the room and he didn’t have a gun?

Sorry to go into a rabbit hole.

Your stories are interesting. So many quality hoops players/coaches/fans on this forum and you’re another! Me, well, I love basketball but lack the nuance others have except on a macro level. There, I can tell coach Steele runs a good company. We are in the golden age of hoops as Box and Steele are probably the two best coaches we’ve ever had (at the same time). It’s heaven.
