Or they figure Ryan Day won’t be there.
Also interesting since Michigan just signed the #1 QB and overall recruit last week
He’s a preferred walkon. Much like his father, he’s an outstanding athlete, but probably a better runner than passer. Though from what I’ve seen, Chase has a decent arm. I thought he was MAC level from the numerous highlights I’ve seen.
We’ll find out. Could be a transfer in his future. Miami is close to home and so is Vanderbilt. And Miami has two official Golden Retrievers.
Watched Chase all year, great running QB but no arm strength and very odd release. Couldn’t see him ever making it in the MAC or any D1 program.
I thought the NCAA outlawed walk-ons
The roster is now limited to 105 players, but you do not have to give 105 scholarships.
Correct, football rosters are limited to 105 players and can give everyone scholarships rather than just 85, but they don’t need to. The additional 20 scholarships are still under Title IX guidance, so if football adds 20 spots, they’d need to fund 20 on the woman’s side as well (or a combination of adding woman’s spots and cutting existing men’s).
Will be curious to see what programs like Miami do with this. I’d be kind of surprised if Big Ten/SEC schools aren’t funding scholarships for all 105 spots.
Miami or Vanderbilt don’t need his father to use his platform to publicly gnash his teeth and decry how unfair their sanctions are. The kid didn’t even have any MAC offers and UM has the #1 QB in the class inbound. This offer is more about the chessboard than the playing field.
I follow both Miami and Washington and I watch Jedd Fisch’s pressers as well as CM’s. Fisch said at his NLI press conference that he plans to hold Washington’s scholarships at 85.
