And Loving It!
Still love that picture. A Miami classic.
(Recent post reminded me of pic)
I thought Coach Coles was more a Hungry Howies’ cool crisp salad man.
Don’t forget the mouth-watering subs!
The first and only time I saw Coach Cole’s eat a meal it was at Larosa’s.
Nate Peavy?
Correct.
This post is a continuation of a non-sequiter that was in another thread. A respected MHT member said that Coles was responsible for the descent of Miami to an average MAC program. I disagree.
During his tenure the landscape of college basketball and Miami’s place in it changed markedly. Millett went from being a recruiting advantage to a decided disadvantage. Our basketball budget went from being above mid-major competitors to well below. Rivals such as Xavier made investments that we did not. Our decision to invest in hockey and the success thereof sapped resources and fan interest.
Through the 16 years of Coles stewardship we had 2 years below 500 in conference play! We were a regular threat against P5 opponents and were frequently in post-season play.
We were not an average MAC program. What some of us feared would happen after Charlie left, did happen. The years of under investment in the basketball program came home to roost. After he resigned we had a dozen years of below 500 performed under multiple coaches. Coach Coles excellence covered up for Miami’s bad decisions.
