Changing Demographic Footprint for Miami Athletics

Miami currently has at least 47 student athletes on its Fall and Winter sports rosters from foreign countries. Mens Basketball is the only sport where the roster is completely comprised of domestic players.

Miami athletes hail from five of the seven continents.

What is the breakdown by sport?

Women’s Basketball has 5.

Happening everywhere. The attainable talent pool is just significantly larger without as much emphasis on P4 vs G5, etc. (although the agencies do care). Tennis for example is the 4th most played sport in the world and over 60% of all US scholarships go to international players. It was crazy to see all the olympians from other countries that go to US colleges. Would be nice if those countries threw some cash to the schools for training their olympians…

Both the NBA and WNBA have plenty of stars from foreign countries. Watching the Olympics showed that the international talent pool had as much talent as the USA.

Just to clarify, we have had several student athletes who were born in Africa. We have none on any of our current rosters, which was the focus of the initial post.

We have never had an athlete from Antarctica.
