This is great. One correction, the 86/87 squad finished 13-15 so that had to be a different season. Maybe 85/86?

I remember that the committee chair said we were next in line.

The interesting thing to me is that more 17 win teams got in than 18 win teams. Perhaps the criteria had already started changing. When I see 17 now I think “Nice. Not totally sure you can get in the CBI anymore with that, but still, nice.”

One thing to also keep in mind is teams weren’t playing as many non-conference games back then. We only played 8 non-league games in 04-05. We played 13 this year. So, 17-19 wins represented a bigger portion of the overall schedule.

It certainly has changed a lot. I’d like to see the tourney add a few more slots.

Also, 17 was the number of wins the team had through 24 games, not heading into the NCAA Tournament.
