MZ343- understood although I not sure about four scores before replacing starters especially Brett. In any event we were up 24 points entering the 4thQ - 30-6. Four scores - three touchdowns and a FG. Our D first team was exhausted . Further our O playing calling in the the 4thQ showed no common sense.
Just ate at the Skyline in Englewood on the way back to St Louis. I have on a Miami tshirt. An old man and his wife in the table next to us said “I graduated from
Miami in 1953. I loved my time in Oxford”. He then said “Did we beat OU”. I said we did, 30-20 but it wasn’t that close. He then said “ I love beating OU.”. We told him we are both 1987 Miami grads, and our daughter is a current sophomore. He is 93. His wife is 95, she went to Wittenberg, and worked for Miami.
Found our worst fan.
So we beat the crap out of OU… and most of the comments are that we didn’t burn the clock in a specific way?
MHT will always be MHT.
We won a game by 10 when we were favored by 3 and 14 of their points came in garbage time
@MiamiU1984 The next tough question the media asks Chuck will be the first.
The Sackman- I plead guilty to being " the worst fan". Specifically I plead guilty to ( 1) caring too much about keeping our QB healthy esp given the number of times he has been injured in games where he should not have been in the game ( Brett should not have been in the OU game after mid way through the 4thQ ); ( 2) desiring to keep our first team O and D players healthy for the rest of the season ( for eg Ty Wise who has been injured on/ off a number of times this season still was playing at the end of the game ); (3 ) desiring to give our backup QB game time experience when we get a comfortable lead ( we were up 24 points at the beginning of the 4th Q ); ( 4 ) desiring to give our second D and O teams more playing experience and confidence. Perhaps I am " guilty " of more! So be it . Yes I am glad we won but I could care less about the spread - what I am concerned about is both the short term and long term health of our program - certain individuals on this site only care about whether we won on Saturday and not how we won or what happened in the 4th Q. The " coaching " in the 4th Q was crap. Sackman perhaps if you go back and carefully and thoroughly review the 4th Q you will decide to join me as a member of the "worst fan Club ".
Does any team pull their starting quarterback with 15 minutes left and only a 24 point lead in a conference game? That seems like a strange expectation.
I don’t totally understand your reference. Mind explains a bit more about the old bobcat? Seems important hence why I’m wondering.
You can if you are gonna just run the ball 3 times and punt each possession, and you wanna make sure your fragile starting QB doesn’t get hurt (again) during garbage time.
We have media?
The Old Bobcat is DG’s late father. DG was rather notably NOT an OU grad, unlike many in his family.
It’s silly to talk about how risky it is to have your quarterback continue to play when it was still possible for the other team to launch a comeback. It’s not garbage time if you’re only up 24 and there’s 15 minutes left.
Even if the game plan is to run the ball exclusively, putting in a backup makes it clear you don’t plan to throw and allows the defense to adjust. And if the game plan is to just hand it off, how is the QB going to get hurt?
It’s just a weird line of criticism when there are valid aspects to criticize.
I’m a great fan. I drove home in the greatest of moods. Woke up feeling even better. We’re about to go back to back as conference champs despite the audacity of not letting Hank Hesson have three hand-offs on Saturday. That could come back to haunt us!
Consider this: we put in the backups and actually let them run the full offense instead of just handing it off.
Imagine thinking that anything else matters!
One thing you would have to say about Brett being in there till the end, after getting the 30-6 lead, he never once did anything but run the play clock down close to zero, take the snap and turn and hand it off to the TB.
The story was laid out in detail over 20 years ago on the Old Hawktalk board. See, there are a few advantages to being old.
But so much better than those hideous mauve dresses!
45 seconds or so.
