Inauspicious and ragged start for Miami…gave up three hits, six walks, three errors, three wild pitches and a passed ball in the first inning. Starter Chadwick with a pitch count of 52 after 2/3 of an inning and gets the hook. Reliever greeted with a three run triple and follows it with a wild pitch and a walk. Total combined pitch count of 71 after one.

Saturday: Maxey threw two good innings as a starter then basically threw BP in the third. Gave up a single, a two run Homer snd back to back to back doubles. Got the hook. Hudson Leach closed out the inning. 5-1 after three.
A start he’ll never forget. Miami freshman Carson Byers’ first pitch as a collegian was driven deep to center for a Georgia Tech home run…then gave up a single and a HBP…but settled in and got out of the inning without any further damage. 9-1 GT middle of 7.
You live or die with pitching. Last season Miami gave up double digit runs 16 times in finishing 10 games under .500. In 2023 we gave up 15 and 16 runs in our first three games. To state the obvious, our pitching must improve dramatically.
Update Wednesday: Pitching surrendered double digit runs again Tuesday in 13-5 loss at Indiana.
North Alabama weekend update: After a lengthy weather delay Saturday evening Miami got off to a good start against North Alabama going up 4-0 after three. But the pitching collapsed again and the RedHawks lost another double digit run game - losing 12-7.
Sunday’s first game is on ESPN + at 2 Eastern.
Sunday update - Game 1…another double digit run loss…14-9. Game 3 will start about 5:30 EST. First game started as televised without sound and abruptly stopped in the top of the first inning. Second game might be televised.
