To your point, my impression is that Sayler is an accounting guy at heart from his background. That’s great for keeping the books straight (which I believe he has done for over a decade), but doesn’t lend itself to great marketing.
It’d certainly be better for attendance if Homecoming were a bigger deal, though it would hurt the Oxford economy from losing Alumni Weekend in the summer.
My accounting professors would always mention Chuck was an accounting major as well
Yesterday’s game had a different fan vibe. Millet lot sold out 2.5 hrs BEFORE kickoff. Lots of RV’s and tailgates. Good band set up behind the Cradle of Coaches area. Loved the shirtless guys on the student side - I’m convinced they changed the Mojo of the game and sparked the comeback. One suggestion - can we play Dream Weaver whenever Cole Weaver gets a catch???
Or at least some Cheap Trick when Adam makes a fantastic play.
I agree Olaf. It was a fun game to attend. It was probably the worst weather for a family day that I can remember and still a decent showing
I just want to point out this thread is longer than some game threads! ![]()
it’s really the small things the AD sucks at….like not having homecoming against a conference opponent in the fall
Midweek maction makes this pretty hard, but it definitely could’ve been done against EMU
The creativity here goes way beyond the athletic department’s ability to comprehend logic.
Probably they didn’t want Homecoming & Family weekend on back to back weekends. Also Admin might decide when Homecoming is & not Athletic dept.
Typical of “academia.”
I’m sure there is a committee that is created, brought together, presented the info, adjourned to think things over, reassembled for discussion, repeated last two steps and, finally, vote and leave one vote short of the decision unhappy with the result.
The challenges posed by back to back homecoming and parents weekends would be considerable for a number of university offices. I don’t believe our attendance woes are a result of scheduling.
MJ, what do you think they’re due to? Think you’re very close to the university correct? Would like to hear from someone close to the school and today’s “modern” students. Certified old guy ‘79. Season ticket holder and perplexed continually when I look over at student section and see what looks like about 1000-1500 students in school of 20,000. Team is pretty decent. Uptown bars don’t hold the other 18,000 kiddies. What are they doing? Why don’t they come?
I know that we on this board love this stuff, but Miamians as a whole don’t care about sports ball. With the exception of hockey during the 00s, I haven’t seen big student turnout to sporting events in my lifetime. Even during the Big Ben years, other than a big few games, Yager was never close to full.
This is a tweet from a BGSU fan from yesterday, so we aren’t the only ones with these issues:
Looks like the athletic department is doing something to get more butts in the seats….
I wish the would price appropriately at the beginning of the season- we are teaching our fans to wait to buy tickets
From the field, the home stands looked full and sounded loud. Great turnout.
