I wasn’t advocating for Uptown Girl either, though it’d tie in better than Stranglehold. A better fit would probably something from the 00s/early 10s with nostalgic value for younger alums and relevance for students (like Michigan started with Mr. Brightside awhile ago).
Yes, the Nuge, who brags and sings about sex with underage girls probably isn’t a good fit.

Started about 15-18 years ago. The “electric” atmosphere I’m referring to is when the song is played.
The song has nothing to do with Pitt.
My point was the excitement generated.

I think he was a very good OC though under Coach Hoeppner. He just failed as a head coach, but admin did not have an open checkbook. I wish the success had continued from prior years.
Hang on Sloopy is from 1967 and Tequila is from 1959. Florida does Tom Petty’s Don’t Back Down from 1989.
I won’t even try to date the Eyes of Texas or the other state songs.
The grand finale needs to come between the third and fourth quarter. Like Jump Around.

Got time at the airport, so here are quick points on improving everything from point seven on. Some were good ideas already stated here:
- More NIL with a focus on retention to help early season cohesion. OOC incentives.
- Larger promotional and game day marketing budgets (mirror what larger programs do).
- Make it easier to travel with Oxford Amtrak service, CVG/DAY shuttles, and more in-town hotels.
- More marketing staff and agency support, higher promotional budgets. Price with a goal of getting butts in the seats rather than scraping out revenue.
- See above about game day staff. More local restaurant/alcohol options. Cheap drinks for (legal) students.
- Lean into sports party culture, within limits. More promotions, though will ultimately depend on winning.
- More local promotions and community events.
- Advocate for more BOT members who value athletics.
- Additional postgame events, like concerts or fireworks.
Getting a sugar daddy who can bankroll these would go a long way, but our academic priorities (can debate that separately) and MAC status makes it a much more difficult job.

Dale “Ivan” Browne was the lead singer for the Dayton area band Ivan and the Sabres. He was an original member of the Lemon Pipers and recorded Green Tambourine with them. The Sabres’ drummer was Fred Meyer from Centerville. He graduated three or four years ahead of me. He left the band for Paris where he created a high profile career for himself and hooked up romantically with Bridget Bardot.
Wikipedia shows the Pipers as an Oxford Bubblegum Psychedelic band.
Seriously, I could see that. Have to give a history lesson, but it could be done. Easy to sing along with I still like uptown girl better

I don’t think any colleges are using FEAR’s “I don’t care about you.”
I like “Uptown Girl,” but at a Miami FB game, it would probably remind any remaining male students that there’s more action involving women uptown at the bars.
Back in the old days (early to mid-60’s) guys went to FB games either with dates….or to find one for that evening. Such a change in the culture.

I remember back in the days (it may have only been for one season in '95) there were concerts before the games. I can’t remember if they were organized by 97X or the university, but I went to at least one concert pre-game of a band that I knew before-hand. I can’t for the life of me remember what band it was, I listened to a lot of 97X and knew most of the alt bands at the time. The Smoking Popes is the name that comes to mind, but they seem pretty big compared to what I was thinking and I can’t find anything online to confirm it. Either way, it was me and about twenty other people watching, so I don’t think rock music is going to fix the problem.

I agree with all, especially 1. Chuck’s goal is to be top of the MAC and one of the highest in the Group of 6 in NIL. We need to figure out a way to get him there.

this is why i think miami will leave the mac, helps with building that game day excitement through conference play but attractive to recruits, Miami should have the donors to fund a solid football team
