Attendance woes

A red-tailed hawk at every home game would be cool. Get it to fly around Yager like the eagle at Jordan-Hare, that would be awesome. I would pony up some $ for that specific project for sure!

I’m too old to even know exactly what beat the clock is as an 08 grad, but maybe it’s as simple as moving beat the clock to yager on nice weather Saturday game days instead of happening uptown in the bars? Let Brickstreet operate the student concessions and run it there? Turn the student side concourse ends into patio beer gardens with TVs to watch other games as well. Get them in the stadium and maybe they’ll be distracted by the game on the field.

if Miami students just want to drink and socialize, meet them where they are. The uptown bars seem to know how to get students there midday on a Saturday, work with them. Little promotions are not going to change the campus relationship with Miami sports. Gotta try something innovative.

I’ve been told Miami is unable to make changes to beer prices at games so that probably rules that out

A bird that could fly around the stadium before the game a la Auburn would be far better! But, it would require a whole different level of commitment than merely having one of the current residents of Hueston Woods come over for the day

My sentiments exactly!

That seems like the same kind of complacency excuse that always comes out of the department. ā€œCan’t do itā€, ā€œOut of our handsā€, ā€œIts complicatedā€, ā€œwe’re working on itā€.

Its their event. If they signed a contract to handcuff themselves they can renegotiate with the vendor or negotiate to end the contract early or figure something out.

Akron was able to roll out $2 beer nights for big basketball games to entice students. Figure it out, stop with the excuses.

Funny story from Saturday that is kind of relevant to this part of the discussion:

At the beginning of the game, I was walking in on the Home side, and there were a couple students ahead of me holding beers. An adult walked up to the student and said, ā€œhey, where did you buy beer in here?ā€

And the kid replies, ā€œI don’t know. I snuck this in.ā€

Maybe we can improve attendance by encouraging students to sneak in their own alcohol?

We need to play a home game or two every year at FC Cincinnati stadium.

Very half baked, but I know there are bars and breweries around Ohio with Miami alums in leadership roles.

I’d love to do booze cruises to/from Oxford out of Columbus and Cincinnati for Sat afternoon games. Load em up at the breweries, give em swag, local beers, and food. Play the fight song. Highlight a player or two while driving to Oxford. Drop em at the stadium into a nice tailgate area, gather em after the game, get Bagel n Deli, and drop em back at the breweries in Cincy and Columbus. You’re not transporting tons of people, but give them a fun Saturday in Oxford and maybe they spread the word to friends.

The department also needs somebody to sell a vision to people. I can’t argue with Sayler getting our programs in very good spots right now, but I wish he would have just a bit of Jerry Jones to him. We need somebody moving heaven and hell to do every bit of local media there is to do around Ohio. And speaking and selling a big vision to people. Give us something to believe in!

All publicity is good publicity. Write some checks with your mouth that puts pressure on our programs to cash. Where is Miami Athletics going, what do we want to be???

I don’t think it should necessarily be saylers job to market the teams. Nowadays ADs have so much on their plate with scheduling, NIL, etc. you need a strong dedicated marketing team. Miami athletic marketing budget is just so small there’s nothing they can work with

All the more reason they need somebody with marketing instincts at the top. If you can’t have a full department, you have to have a force of personality

According to the most recent athletics financial report I could find (2023) we spend about 500k a year on athletics marketing. This seems like no where close to enough. We spend more on student athlete meals. This needs to be increased significantly to really make a difference and hire the people necessary to make a change

Why?

I hear from a reliable source that a game at TQL Stadium is likely going to happen. Really.

Unless it is a neutral site game against an opponent that wont come to Oxford why would we do this?

Miami hockey at low $20 is a bargain. We’re going to Denver with a group which cut the tickets from low $80’s to low $60’s. Paying $80 on game 2 when our group is smaller.

Just received an email about the Y’s in the Toledo area offering two free tickets to their members to the UT v Northern game. Members can also purchase more tickets for $10 apiece.

Other than a couple hockey games she went to because she and her friends think the players are cute, and attending a couple football/basketball games when we are in town, my daughter, now a junior at Miami, hasn’t attended athletic events. No interest.

Wow, I didn’t see that coming. It is a very nice venue and ā€œright-sizedā€, but not sure why we would do that unless it’s the only way to get a P4 program to come close to our base for a game.
