Had some down time so I thought I would go through the stats for our top 9 players and see where they fall. Remember, higher number is better. So, 1.1 is better than 0.8. We only have 3 players at 1.0 or above. Meaning assists equal to or greater than turnovers. Everyone else has more turnovers than assists. Her you go:
I hope we can cut the turnovers by at least a third next year. Some of these are the fault of the receivers, but too many are also the dribble into trouble type. The later is the kind where I cringe.
Absolutely. Don’t dribble into traffic. Pass the damn ball. And yes, many of these TO are because the receivers are not capable of catching what otherwise was a fine pass.
Most of Ilse’s turnovers are because of not completely understanding American rules. She has a bunch of moving screen fouls, 3 second calls, and not keeping her pivot foot planted properly. Then for awhile she was catching a pass, doing a jump stop, and shooting a three and getting called for traveling… So dead ball turnovers which are not as damaging as live ball to’s which can lead to fast breaks the other way.
Now Enjulina’s turnovers are the least troubling to me because I think they are unavoidable. She is the only real scoring threat we have and is really good. Other than her Amber and Maya are about 10 or 11 points per game. The MAC is a league in which every team’s coaches have great scouting reports on the other teams with every game being on ESPN+. Because she is so much better offensively than our other girls every opponent has special defensive plans to stop her. Anytime she puts the ball on the floor there are going to be 2 or 3 girls coming at her. So if she just passes the ball to someone else that is a victory for the defense. If she was just defended a normal one on one like everyone else on our team, she would have over 20 points every game because no one is stopping her one on one. But if she does not attack the double or triple teams she is going to only score 10 or less points and we are not going to have enough points to win. Therefore she is often attacking multiple defenders which causes some to’s but also allows her to score enough for us to win games. Even with facing more special defenses than anyone else, she is third in the league in scoring at 17.2. I think she is doing what she has to do to help us win.
Interesting who the only person’s turnovers you don’t “excuse”. We have other foreign born players besides Ilse. Some playing in the US for the first time as well. Why is Ilse the only one whose turnovers you excuse for “not completely understanding American rules”. Seems like a bit of a double standard.
I’m not hinting at anything. I was pretty damn clear my last post. And frankly, I don’t care what names The Sackman calls me. If I could delete this whole fucking thread I would.
Dick is not a racist, period. He is however ( getting back to basketball) , giving too much credence to the misunderstanding of American rules. I seriously believe that after months of practicing and twenty plus games and scrimmaging that not being up on the American officiating style is not an excuse.
