Here’s a great interview with Jermaine Henderson. He’s currently an assistant coach for the University of Dayton. I think everyone on this board can say he’s more than earned this opportunity and he’s doing great!
Thanks for posting that. Great interview. That is the Jermaine that I love. I noticed a picture of Charlie Coles and Joe Barry talking on the bench. Sadly both dead now. Wonder if we will ever get back to that level as a program.
Colleen Day, his wife and Miami HOF women’s BB player, is an assistant coach on the Dayton women’s team.
The world needs more Jermaines and Colleens
as co-head coaches of course
Always amazed he’s never had a real shot as a HC, anywhere. Any number of MAC schools should have had him on their interview lists, at the least, but you never hear his name mentioned, even with Horizon League jobs.
And he has a winning record as a head coach as well when he took over for Charlie at the end of one season.
Definitely deserves a chance.
Maybe he needs to go D2 to get a great full season record to then get a job. Only 360 total so not the easiest thing to land…
Dayton’s season just ended. Anthony Grant should return as HC next year which means Jermaine should return as well.
Shouldn’t somebody check with Theman?
I wish any Miami alum well, but 20 years being an assistant coach and never being a HC anywhere … ya know?
Thanks for posting the interview. Easy to see why so many folks here love the guy. Hope he lands a HC somewhere soon.
I’d say their family has about the best possible situation right now. Could be a big downgrade for them personally if he gets a head coaching job at some random D2 school.
I don’t really know what to say other than “have to pay your dues if you want to sing the blues and you know it don’t come easy….”
Dude’s a great guy. A great alum.Excellent coach. But…there are a lot of awesome assistant coaches so it might be what he needs to do. Maybe not? But again, I don’t make the rules at the strip club that is head coaching.
Two things are true at the same time:
- He should have been hired to succeed Charlie
- Given Charlie’s last 2-3 years, there’s no way you could hire anyone on Charlie’s staff
(Point 2 doesn’t justify Bates calling up his old Vandy friend Eddie Fogler to outsource the coaching search that ended up with hiring one of Fogler’s former players/assistants.)
