Coming to Oxford
Sorry if the article is behind a paywall for some. Here is the gist:
A plan to reestablish Amtrak service in Oxford near Miami University has received $2 million in federal money, which will allow the project to be completed.
The money was announced by the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments last month through the federal surface transportation block grant program. The project requires a 20% local match.
Oxford and the university could begin construction in 2026, according to a blog post by the university.
@Bash_Riprock Check this out!
It grows closer. And the 2026 date seems to have been accurate.
The times still seem like they’ll be terrible for ridership. Based on the current Cardinal schedule, you could probably expect:
~2:30 am Weds, Fri, Sunday, heading to Cincinnati/DC/NY
~3:00 am Mon, Thurs, Saturday, heading to Indy/Chicago.
Amtrak has said they want to take Cardinal service from 3x weekly to daily though, which would make it a bit better. ~8 hours to Union Station in Chicago isn’t terrible versus a 5+ hour drive.
5 hours to Chicago? I can usually get there in about 4, if taking the Potter Shop Rd shortcut thru Centerville.
Need to add 15-30 minutes for the obligatory stop at Bill’s doughnuts in Centerville
Mixed reviews on Bills since ownership change. Personally I have moved on to The Doughnut Haus in Springboro.
