Al & Larry’s

“This is a pencil rendering of Al & Larry’s we bought years ago at a shop in Oxford. It depicts it exactly like it was back in the day, and it STILL hangs in our kitchen, along with other Miami memories.”

My Dad and I ate there when I attended freshman orientation. I still remember him looking around at the decor, and then saying “I can’t believe this university. It’s like ‘Andy Hardy Goes to College’!”

What were the years of operation? I don’t recall it?

Still remember eating there on the second floor with my parents during my move-in in 1973. Loved the homemade pickles!

Oh, those pickles! And the Stromboli sandwich, too.

My mother could never remember the name of the restaurant. She always called it “Lou and Harry’s” and that name stuck with our family forever.

That’s funny. I was not a drinker but I also remember the pickles!

Did they have the Burns Boy ham and Swiss sandwich on a sesame seed bun?

I used to kind of think I was getting old, and then I read this thread and had to Google “Andy Hardy” to catch up with the real old timers of MHT.

It starred “The Number One Star In the World!…you hear that!…THE WORLD!”

You’re not old. This is old.

Also, this show sucked. Dude wasn’t funny on Mash.

Probably why he was killed off on show

I remember watching Al & Larry’s burn down. I heard there was a very nice insurance payout.

I worked at the Princess Theater in 2014 when it “caught fire from the ice machine” the day before GBD.

I graduated Miami in May 1979.

The future Mrs. Nopper (also a ‘79 grad) and I went on a very long trip out west afterwards.

We returned through Oxford on the way back, only to witness the burned ruins of Al & Larry’s.

We were actually gonna grab lunch there, for (recently) old times’ sake.

Surreal sight.

Mickey Rooney (“Andy Hardy”) last paid performance, which was never shown on broadcast TV (NSFW).

This is awesome. What a great idea. I hate all ads because they are all ass. Just terrible. But this one wasn’t. Most of this influencer shit is 60 seconds or more of some dolt blathering. But this was like ten seconds. And well told. I like. Seriously, thank you for sharing. Have never seen it.

So it burned down right before my Freshman year which was 1980.,

I remember Attractions having something on their menu that was “Al & Larry’s favorite!” (may have been the bbq sauce?).
