ESPN+. Air Force plays in the Mountain West. Last year they were 9-22 ( 2-16). Like the other military academies, in general, they are better at football than basketball. So far this season they are 2-5 with wins over Jacksonville State by6 and Mercyhurst by 34. They play at Wright State tonight ( Saturday). I think this trip is designed to give people at Wright Patterson Air Force Base a chance to see their school play. The Falcons have one notable player, 6-5 Senior Ethan Taylor, who averages 19.0 ppg, 7.6rpg, 4.3 apg, and1.6 spg. He is the only guy averaging in double digits, they have a bunch of guys between 9 and 4 ppg.
This will be Miami’s first game since winning Ft. Meyers Tipoff Palms Division. First trophy we have won under Coach Steele, hopefully it is something to build off of. Coach Steele picked up his 100th career win in the Siena game Monday. Transfer wing Peter Studer was MVP of the tournament and Ian Elmer also made the all tourney team.
Something I forgot about when writing the preview. Coach Steele says Air Force plays a 2-3 matchup zone and runs the Princeton offense. He also said that this is the only team on our schedule who uses either of those, thus this game demands extra preparation.
With Wright-Patterson Air Force Base literally within walking distance of the Nutter Center not surprised it was a sellout, not sure the Miami game will be a sell out.
Having gone to school across the street from Wright-Patt, I never argue giving them free tickets. If WSU could afford it, I’d love to see them give at least 1,000 tickets to military service members. A lot of them want to take their families to a game and not break the bank in the process. But it is a money issue for Wright State as well.
Agreed! It’s an awesome opportunity for both schools and a win-win for all involved. Tangentially related with other threads, I’ve been hearing rumors wsu athletics isn’t happy with the Nutter Center for 90+% of their games anymore and is looking at alternatives.
